PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur Receives East Kalimantan Provincial Government Award for Success in Stunting Management

Penajam, East Kalimantan – PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) received an award from the East Kalimantan Provincial Government for its contribution to the implementation of the Foster Parents Movement for Stunting Prevention/Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh Cegah Stunting (GENTING) Program. The award was presented at an event held at the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN) Auditorium on December 5, 2025.

In relation to the award, PHKT was assessed as having made an effective contribution to accelerating the reduction of stunting in Penajam District, Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency, which is both a ring-1 operational area of the Company and a priority stunting location designated by the local government.

Head of Communication, Relations & CID PHKT, Elis Fauziyah, explained the Company’s commitment to continuously support government programs aimed at improving maternal and child health as an essential element in creating a healthy society and a better future. “Through this program, we provide intensive assistance to 21 stunted children with interventions that include health monitoring, nutritional support, food assistance, family education on parenting and health practices, as well as the implementation of Prospective Brides and Grooms/Calon Pengantin (Cantin) socialization as an early mitigation measure,” she explained.

According to Elis, the award represents government recognition of PHKT’s commitment and concrete actions in supporting stunting prevention efforts through the implementation of the Company’s CSR program, namely the GENTING Program. “All activities are designed to deliver direct impact on children’s growth and development while simultaneously increasing family awareness of the importance of adequate nutrition and proper health practices,” Elis added.

PPU continues to face significant challenges related to stunting. The prevalence trend has remained fluctuating over recent years, requiring consistent intervention and stronger collaboration. The Head of the East Kalimantan Provincial Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency/Badan Kependudukan dan Keluarga Berencana Nasional (BKKBN), dr. Nurizky Permanajati emphasized the importance of collaboration among the government, communities, institutions, and the business sector in accelerating stunting reduction. A similar message was also conveyed by the Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (DP3AP2KB) of PPU.

Part of the IKN area falls within the PPU Regency. Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN), Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono, stressed that stunting reduction must be achieved no later than before IKN becomes the political capital in 2028. “Stunting must be reduced before 2028. I highly appreciate all Foster Parents Initiative for Stunting Prevention who have supported this program. Next year, the IKN Authority will introduce a more massive program to accelerate stunting reduction in the IKN area,” Basuki emphasized during the award ceremony.

The stunting rate in East Kalimantan remains at around 22 percent as of 2024. Specifically, Sepaku District, the core development area of IKN, recorded a rate of approximately 10.6 percent, or 269 children under five. These figures indicate the need for more substantial efforts to ensure children in the IKN area grow into a superior generation toward Indonesia Emas 2045.

Elis added that the award serves as motivation for PHKT to continue strengthening community engagement and development programs, particularly in the health sector. “To date, PHKT has implemented various CSR programs in the health sector that support government policies to improve public health quality and prevent stunting, through providing access to health services, maternal health care, and the provision of nutritious food for children,” she said.

Through cross-sector synergy and a community-based approach, PHKT believes that efforts to create a healthier, more productive, and stunting-free society in East Kalimantan and the IKN area will be successful. “Our contribution to addressing stunting reflects the Company’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of future generations in our upstream oil and gas operating areas. Strong collaboration among government, health workers, community partners, and the industrial sector is key to accelerating stunting reduction and ensuring sustainable improvements in public health quality,” Elis concluded.
