Tabalong – The management of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) visited the sites of the company's flagship CSR programs in Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan, on June 11, 2026. The visit was part of a periodic monitoring and evaluation activity aimed at assessing the effectiveness and benefits of the company's CSR programs as experienced by the assisted groups and the wider community.
The delegation visited the CSR program site run by PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tanjung Field, the BASMA Madani Waste Bank Program (Bank Sampah Masukau/BASMA) of the Madani Group in Masukau Village. On this occasion, the chairperson of the UMKM group assisted under the SEKARA JIRAK Program, another PEP Tanjung CSR initiative, was also present and introduced various processed fishery products, including basreng (fish ball crackers), fish crackers, and fish bone crackers. The visit served as an interactive discussion forum between company management and the assisted groups.
During the event, the Communication & CID Manager of Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Dony Indrawan, encouraged the assisted groups to keep innovating and creating, thereby opening greater opportunities for the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) they manage to grow and become increasingly self-reliant. The company also donated an embroidery machine to the Madani Group, which can be used to increase the selling value of their products by adding embroidered accessories. The group currently owns more than seven modern sewing machines to support their MSME activities.
According to Dony, the company runs innovative CID programs tailored to the potential of each village or region, making them effective and sustainable solutions to the issues faced by communities in those areas. "As with these PEP Tanjung Field programs, we want to maximize the utilization of village potential as one of the solutions in supporting the economic development and livelihoods of communities in this region," he explained.
One such example is the SEKARA JIRAK Program, a women's empowerment initiative rooted in local potential that earned the Platinum distinction, the highest honor in the Best Empowerment Woman category at The 18th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit & Awards 2026. The program was developed in Jirak Village, located 30 kilometers from the Tabalong regency capital, which is rich in natural resources, particularly freshwater fish, including Haruan/Snakehead. Despite the abundance of fishery products, it had not fully translated into improved community welfare, leaving poverty rates in the village relatively high. Through the SEKARA JIRAK Program, formerly known as the Kuas Jirak Program, residents are encouraged to develop businesses based on processing freshwater fish into nutritious food products. Processed products include catfish floss (bonile), snakehead fish floss (boniga), tilapia floss (bonila), and albumin extract from snakehead fish, which contains between 5.0% and over 20% albumin as a proportion of total protein. "The program now focuses not only on aquaculture techniques but also emphasizes the importance of product processing and marketing strategies, so that Jirak Village can develop as a fishery hub rooted in local wisdom," he elaborated.
Sri Hartini, Chairperson of the SEKARA JIRAK Group, expressed her appreciation for PHI's support and the strong collaboration that has developed between them. She noted that thanks to the success of the CSR program, she and her group members were selected as representatives of Tabalong Regency to participate in an SME Training event to be held on June 23, 2026, in Bali. "We have not only benefited economically, but have also been given new opportunities and experiences that we never could have imagined before," she said.
In addition, PEP Tanjung Field initiated the BASMA Madani CSR Program and the Madani Collection Group Program in Masukau Village, approximately 12.5 kilometers from the company's operational area. The program arose from the suboptimal use of waste coveralls and employee uniforms. It seeks to increase the added value of this waste by transforming it into various fashion accessories through recycling activities. One of the training programs provided to the group was the Sasirangan Sewing and Printing Training (CETAR). Through collaboration with the Madani MSME group, the program has successfully enhanced community skills in processing fabric scraps and used coveralls into economically valuable products such as bags, pillowcases, and home decorations.
The Secretary of Masukau Village, Salatifa, stated in her remarks: "We are grateful to PEP Tanjung Field for its continued support, which has opened up business opportunities and income sources for housewives through the innovative recycling of coverall materials and fabric scraps into useful products." She also added that even during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the BASMA Madani Group continued to earn income through a considerable volume of mask orders.
Closing the event, Dony expressed gratitude that PEP Tanjung Field's CSR programs have delivered tangible impact for the assisted village communities. "The success of our CSR programs is in line with our commitment to promoting economic growth and community self-reliance, as well as environmental sustainability, in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals," he concluded.
