Through BASO IGA PHI Sports Edition, PT Pertamina EP Tanjung Field Strengthens Collaboration and Upstream Oil and Gas Literacy Among Tabalong Journalists

Tabalong – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tanjung Field held a media gathering event, Bincang Asik Soal Migas Ala PHI (BASO IGA PHI) Sports Edition, featuring a fishing activity with journalists on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Tanjung Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan. The BASO IGA PHI event was organized to strengthen relationships with journalists from the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of Tabalong while enhancing their understanding of the national upstream oil and gas industry.

The event was attended by the management of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), which oversees Pertamina’s upstream oil and gas operations in Kalimantan, including the PEP Tanjung Field in South Kalimantan. The activity began with a presentation on the upstream oil and gas industry and the role of the Company and stakeholders, including the media, in supporting the sustainability of national oil and gas production. The session served as an interactive forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the upstream oil and gas industry in supporting regional development in the Company’s operational areas.

Chairman of PWI Tabalong, Sabirin, expressed the association’s support for the BASO IGA PHI initiative involving journalists in the Tabalong area. He also appreciated the positive relationship established between PEP Tanjung Field and PWI Tabalong. “We appreciate the support that the Company has provided over the years, and we hope the good relationship between the Company and PWI will continue to grow stronger in the future,” he said.

PHI Manager of Communication Relations & CID, Dony Indrawan, explained that BASO IGA PHI is a media gathering initiative within PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) Regional 3 Kalimantan, first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. “We realize the importance of collaborating with the media to deliver objective, accurate, and balanced public information. Therefore, a platform is needed to continuously maintain the quality of the relationship between the media and the Company,” he explained.

According to Dony, BASO IGA PHI is designed as a media engagement forum that provides a more relaxed yet productive and effective space for dialogue. “We hope BASO IGA PHI will encourage the publication of higher-quality, more accurate, and impactful news coverage about the Company and the upstream oil and gas industry, ultimately the sustainability of national oil and gas production,” he said.

He added that BASO IGA PHI was initially conducted virtually via Zoom. Over time, the program evolved into in-person gatherings, while interactions continued through the BASO IGA PHI WhatsApp Group (WAG). During this Special Fishing Edition, PHI also announced the establishment of the BASO IGA Tanjung Tabalong WhatsApp Group as a communication channel for information exchange and the distribution of Company press releases to local media.

In addition, Dony introduced the Apresiasi Pewarta Energi Kalimantan (APEKA), a journalism competition for media professionals focused on news coverage of the Company’s upstream oil and gas activities. The 2026 edition marks the second year of the competition. The competition is open to journalists from the print, online, radio, and television media, with submissions accepted until August 16, 2026.

As part of efforts to enhance journalists' understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry, Dony also explained the stages of upstream operations, from exploration, development, and production to abandonment. He further provided an overview of Oil and Gas Cooperation Contacts and the challenges currently faced by PEP Tanjung Field. According to him, these challenges involve not only achieving production targets but also ensuring the smooth transportation of crude oil through a 236.4-kilometer pipeline network to RU V Balikpapan as part of the national energy supply chain, and ensuring that operations can be managed safely, securely, and sustainably.

Dony added that accurate and positive media coverage can help improve public understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry and support the Company’s role in providing energy for national development. “Therefore, through BASO IGA PHI, we aim to continue building strong relationships and enhancing our media colleagues’ understanding of the national upstream oil and gas industry, resulting in quality news coverage and public education,” he added.

The event continued with a fishing activity in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The BASO IGA PHI event concluded with a gathering session while enjoying Tanjung’s signature grilled fish dishes.
