Bunyu Island, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), through its subsidiaries and affiliates in Zona 10 namely PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field and PT Pertamina Hulu Energy Nunukan Company (PHENC), synergize to hold an MSME Food Product Standardization Training: PIRT Procedures and Halal Certification. The activity was held at the General Meeting Hall/Balai Pertemuan Umum (BPU) Building, Bunyu Barat Village, Bunyu District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan, on May 20, 2025.
This training aims to enhance the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to understand and implement food safety standards, ensuring the halal nature of their products. This strategy is expected to enhance the competitiveness of local MSMEs while expanding market access and increasing consumer confidence in regional products.
In his remarks, Pjs. Riza Akbar, Senior Manager of PT Pertamina EP Bunyu Field, emphasized the company's commitment to continuing to support the development of community independence in its operational areas, especially MSMEs, as an important pillar in regional economic development. "Through this training, we hope MSME players have more knowledge and confidence in ensuring that their products are safe, halal, and ready to compete in a wider market," he said.
This training activity presented an expert from the Bulungan Regency Integrated Business Service Center/Pusat Layanan Usaha Terpadu (PLUT), Sri Mulyani Rahayu, who provided material on the stages and procedures for obtaining a Home Industry Product Permit/Produk Industri Rumah Tangga (PIRT) and the Halal Certification application process. PIRT is a home-scale food and drink production permit issued by the Health Office, while Halal Certification is issued by the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency/Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH) to ensure the halal nature of products according to Islamic law.
A total of 25 participants from three local business groups attended this activity, namely the Independent Women's Business Group, Bina Karya Utama, and Kampung Herbal. In addition to gaining theoretical understanding, participants also get access to information and direct networking with related agencies such as the Health Service and the Industry and Trade Service.
Sub-district Head of Bunyu Sub-district, Jaenudin, appreciated this activity and hoped that this training would be the starting point for increasing MSMEs' understanding of the importance of legality and product quality standards. Through this training, MSME actors gain real benefits, including increased insight and skills in managing PIRT and halal certification, strengthened trust in the products they produce, and expanded opportunities for business development through the legitimacy they achieve. This activity is also expected to encourage an increase in the number of MSMEs that obtain official permits and halal certification, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of local products and promoting the economic independence of the Bunyu community.
Meanwhile, the Manager of Communication Relations & CID PHI stated that the MSME capacity-building activity is a manifestation of the company's commitment to implementing an innovative and sustainable Social and Environmental Responsibility program. "The training is expected to be able to encourage better MSME competency so that it can increase product competitiveness and also its marketing," he explained.
