Jakarta – The Sobat Bumi Kalimantan Scholarship Program/Program Beasiswa Sobat Bumi Kalimantan (BSBK) of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) supports 15 of Kalimantan’s top students in pursuing undergraduate education. One of the BSBK recipients in 2025, Dayang Salsa Oktaviani, a graduate of State Senior High School 1 Marangkayu, has been allowed to pursue her studies in the International Relations Study Program at Mulawarman University, Samarinda, without feeling a financial burden on her family.
Through the BSBK Program, Dayang received a full scholarship, allowing her to continue her higher education without taking on part-time work that could strain her parents’ finances. “I want to prove that this scholarship opportunity not only eases my situation, but can also become an initial step for me to create a positive impact for others and the environment,” she said. As a student who migrated from Marangkayu to Samarinda, Dayang initially faced challenges in meeting her daily living needs.
Therefore, the news of her selection as a scholarship recipient became a deeply meaningful moment that reminded her of her family, who have always been her primary source of strength. “This scholarship is invaluable, not only financially, but also because it allows me to focus on my studies. I believe that every small step can lead to a big change if it is taken with good intentions,” she said confidently.
The BSBK Program provides comprehensive support to recipients, including tuition fees, living allowances, and capacity-building programs focused on environmental issues. In addition, Dayang and the other 14 scholarship recipients will participate in various Aksi Sobat Bumi and Desa Energi Berdikari Sobat Bumi (DEB SoBI) activities to increase environmental awareness.
PHI Manager of Communication, Relations & CID, Dony Indrawan, expressed the Company’s belief that empowered and self-reliant communities, along with a sustainable environment, will support the continuity of the Company’s upstream oil and gas operations and production for decades to come. “At PHI, we believe that education is one of the main foundations for building an independent and broad-minded society, as well as a better future for the next generation,” he emphasized.
According to him, just like Dayang, BSBK Program recipients come from several ring-1 upstream oil and gas operating areas in East Kalimantan, such as Muara Badak, Muara Jawa, Samboja, Marangkayu, Anggana, and Sanga-Sanga. In addition, scholarship recipients also come from Tarakan in North Kalimantan and Murung Pudak in South Kalimantan. Dayang’s school in Marangkayu is located only about five kilometers from the Santan Terminal, an upstream oil and gas facility operated by one of PHI’s subsidiaries, PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur.
Currently, all scholarship recipients have begun their first semester of study at the University of Borneo Tarakan, Mulawarman University, Samarinda State Polytechnic, Kalimantan Institute of Technology, and Lambung Mangkurat University.
The 2025 BSBK Program marks its second implementation. The program is carried out through collaboration between PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) and Pertamina Foundation, with full support from PHI’s subsidiaries, namely Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), and Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT). The inauguration ceremony was held in Balikpapan on November 17, 2025, and was attended by the Acting Head of the East Kalimantan Provincial Office of Education and Culture, Armin, representing the Governor of East Kalimantan, Assistant II for Economy and Development of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Ahyani Fadianur Diani, PHI President Director Sunaryanto, Pertamina Foundation Operations Director Gusman Adiwardhana, General and Finance Manager of SKK Migas Kalimantan and Sulawesi Representative Lely M.W. Sondakh; as well as the management of SKK Migas Kalimantan–Sulawesi Representative and PHI.
Dony believes that expanded access to higher education will encourage the emergence of young generations who are independent, competitive, and broad-minded in building a better future. “The BSBK Program aligns with government policies and efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on quality education, Goal 10 on reducing inequalities, and Goal 13 on climate action,” he concluded.
