Showcasing the Charm of Kalimantan, PT Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field Stands Out at the Discovering the Magnificence of Indonesia Expo 2024 in the Netherlands

Utrecht, Netherlands– PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), through its subsidiaries and affiliates in Zona 9, successfully captured attention at the international event Discovering the Magnificence of Indonesia Expo 2024, held at Jaarbeurs, Utrecht, Netherlands, on November 29, 2024. Alongside PT Pertamina (Persero), Zona 9 highlighted the theme "Promoting Green Tourism Villages and Small to Medium Enterprises in Europe." This initiative served as a platform to introduce community-based sustainability concepts through flagship programs and local Indonesian products.

Currently, Zona 9 oversees several corporate entities, including PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tanjung Field, PEP Sangatta Field, and PEP Sangasanga Field. One of the key highlights of Zona 9 at the expo was the Ekoriparian Sungai Hitam Lestari (SHL) program by PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field. This program focuses on environmental conservation and empowers local communities in Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.

Elis Fauziah, Head of Communication Relations & CID Zona 9, elaborated on the program during a discussion titled "Sustainable Pathways: Exploring Eco-Tourism Villages & Regenerative Tourism Initiatives in Indonesia." She explained that the program involves proboscis monkey conservation, mangrove conservation spanning 120 hectares, and community empowerment. “Currently, the population of proboscis monkeys under our protection has reached 400 individuals,” she noted.

“Community tourism groups or Pokdarwis, which manage river cruise tourism, play a crucial role, along with the Sungai Hitam Lestari MSMEs that produce locally processed products such as jeruju tea and mangrove-based goods. This initiative has generated annual revenues of up to IDR 70 million for tourism groups and IDR 12 million for local MSMEs,” Elis added.

Zona 9 also showcased environmentally friendly innovations, such as planting 2,500 mangroves as habitats and food sources for proboscis monkeys. Additionally, using solar panels in the riparian area has saved electricity costs by up to IDR 1.2 million per year and reduced carbon emissions by 51.05 tons of CO2e annually. Overall, the program contributes to a reduction of 175.34 tons of CO2e emissions per year.

Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID Regional 3, emphasized that the riparian program aligns with the company's efforts to support the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the program contributes to three key goals: SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

“We aim to ensure that our CSR programs deliver tangible benefits to the community and the environment while creating sustainable positive impacts for the future,” Dony stated.

He further explained that the company's participation in this event serves as a step to introduce the natural beauty of Kalimantan and demonstrate collaborative efforts between the company, local communities, and other stakeholders in preserving it.

In addition to the SHL program, Zona 9 showcased a variety of flagship MSMEs products, such as Kelulut Honey from PEP Sangatta Field, creative products from Buswiskula in Kutai Lama, and products from CETAR by PEP Tanjung Field. These products highlight the significant potential of Indonesian MSMEs to compete in international markets.

Zona 9's participation in the expo showcased Kalimantan's cultural richness and natural beauty and served as proof of Indonesia's commitment to promoting sustainability on the global stage. With ongoing social and environmental innovations, these programs are expected to support the local economy while preserving Indonesia's natural heritage for future generations.

Moreover, through this exhibition, Zona 9 delivered a strong message that harmony between humans and nature can serve as a foundation for better and more sustainable development.
