Penajam Paser Utara – One of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia’s (PHI) subsidiaries, PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT), collaborated with the Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency Government in organizing an In-House Training themed “Transformational Leaders: Driving Excellent Performance and Shared Success” that took place at the PPU Regent’s Office Hall, East Kalimantan, on August 26, 2025. Around 100 Civil Servants (ASN) participated with the aim of enhancing capacity, competence, and strengthening adaptive, collaborative, and performance-oriented leadership behavior.
The Regent of Penajam Paser Utara, Mudyat Noor, stated that this initiative was a strategic and important effort to improve professionalism, quality, and integrity among civil servants in delivering the best services to the public. “The improvement of civil servants’ capacity and competence is vital to meet the challenges of the times, address the digitalization era, uphold good governance, and respond to the dynamics of public services. Civil servants must be able to adapt, continuously sharpen their skills, and broaden their knowledge in order to deliver their best performance,” he said.
Mudyat also expressed his hope that through this training, participants would gain knowledge not only in technical and managerial competencies but also in strengthening bureaucratic ethics in their work. He extended his gratitude to Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur for its contribution and participation.
The In-House Training session was delivered interactively by PHI’s Manager of Communication Relations & CID, Dony Indrawan, who has extensive experience in corporate communication, change management, and leadership development. During the session, participants were encouraged to understand self-motivation, build a shared vision, and apply transformational leadership principles in the workplace. “To be a great leader, every leader must first understand themselves, including their motivations, which drive their attitudes and behavior in carrying out their duties,” Dony explained in the two-hour session.
According to Dony, transformational leaders in regional governments such as heads of departments, sub-district heads, and village chiefs must have clear, measurable, and visualized short and long-term goals. When communicated effectively, these goals would become a collective vision to be achieved together as shared success. “A transformational leader does not prioritize personal career advancement, but instead genuinely strives to build the competence of civil servants so they can grow and develop their potential to the fullest, delivering excellent performance and providing the best contribution to the people they serve,” he added.
In this session, Dony also occasionally shared inputs with a touch of humor, noting that a transformational leader must be open to change and even proactively drive changes within themselves, their teams, and their environment. “Still holding grudges when a regent changes or policies shift? Remember, the ‘most beautiful ex’ only exists in a song. Each of us must stay open and keep moving on when changes happen in order to succeed,” he said.
Regarding the In-House Training, Dony emphasized that the company will continue to contribute and support efforts to develop human resource capacity, particularly among civil servants, as part of its synergy with the local government. “We believe that transformational leadership will serve as a strong foundation for achieving excellent performance and shared success, which are crucial for regional development across various sectors,” he added.
Assistant I for Government & People’s Welfare of PPU Regency, Nicko Herlambang, also expressed his views, “We hope that the strong collaboration with Pertamina Hulu Indonesia and Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur can continue, so it will bring sustainable benefits for the capacity development of civil servants and regional development.”
According to him, with a harmonious relationship in place, the company and the PPU government are optimistic about supporting regional growth while nurturing civil servants who are ready to face future challenges.
This activity is not only about enhancing competencies but also serves as a platform to strengthen synergy between the local government and the upstream oil and gas industry. Such synergy is expected to help achieve regional development goals and support efforts to realize national energy security in line with the government’s Asta Cita agenda on energy self-sufficiency.
