Kutai Kartanegara– PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) President Director Sunaryanto, along with the company's Management, conducted a Management Walkthrough (MWT) and Safari Ramadan in its operational areas in East Kalimantan from March 10–12, 2025. As part of this initiative, the Management also carried out the Management Goes to Community (MGTC) program by visiting one of the company's community empowerment or CSR programs—the Swamp Forest School Program/Program Sekolah Rawa Hutan in Tani Baru Village, Anggana District, Kutai Kartanegara.
The MWT and Safari Ramadan served as a platform for PHI's Management to reinforce the importance of health and safety, directly engage with field workers to hear their aspirations and appreciate their efforts in maintaining national energy production. During this visit, PHI's President Director visited the North Processing Unit (NPU) of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) in Zona 8 and the Sangasanga Field of PT Pertamina EP (PEP) in Zona 9. In the spirit of Ramadan, PHI also donated to orphans and underprivileged children as a gesture of care and support for communities surrounding its operational areas.
During his visit to Zona 8, Sunaryanto, known as Anto, emphasized the importance of harmonious collaboration with all internal and external stakeholders. "Pertamina embraces the spirit of togetherness during Ramadan to strengthen synergy, collaboration, and cooperation with all stakeholders in managing upstream oil and gas operations, supporting the government's Asta Cita mandate to achieve energy self-sufficiency," Anto stated.
He highlighted that excellent safety performance is the foundation for safe, reliable, compliant, and sustainable upstream oil and gas operations. During his visit to the Swamp Forest School Program, he also encouraged around 50 junior and senior high school students, emphasizing that education is the key to building a better future.
Meanwhile, Setyo Sapto Edi, the general manager of Zona 8, explained that the Swamp Forest School Program/Program Sekolah Rawa Hutan is PHM's CSR initiative in education. It focuses on infrastructure development and capacity building for teachers, particularly in 3T areas (Tertinggal, Terdepan, Terluar). The school is located in the middle of a swamp within the Mahakam Delta, where boats serve as the primary mode of transportation for the local community.
Setyo added that PHM has supported internet access, solar-powered electricity, and renovating a nearly 7-kilometer bridge connecting Tani Baru Village and Muara Pantuan. These efforts have made it easier for children to attend school and improved mobility for the local community.
Head of the Nurul Ilmi Anggana Community Learning Center/Sekolah Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat (PKBM), Indriati, expressed her gratitude for PHM's contributions to education in Tani Baru Village. These include constructing educational facilities, solar home system assistance, internet access support, and teacher capacity-building programs. Various initiatives, such as PHM Teaching, intensive mentoring for "Guru Penggerak" (Teacher Leaders), and coastal area scholarships, have significantly enhanced educational quality.
During the visit to Zona 9, the Senior Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, Sigid Setiawan, presented the company's performance and achievements. One highlight was the implementation of a borderless strategy and synergy among subsidiaries, where crude oil produced by PEP Sangasanga is transported through PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) facilities, and its lifting volume is recorded at Santan Terminal, managed by PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT), continuously since October 2, 2024.
Sigid also shared the company's environmental accomplishments, stating "PEP Sangasanga Field has once again achieved remarkable recognition by receiving the PROPER Gold award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Lingkungan (KLHK) for its environmental management performance and outstanding community development program, Ekoriparian Sungai Hitam Lestari (SHL), in Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara."
This award was particularly special as PEP Sangasanga Field secured PROPER Gold for the second consecutive year, having won the same award in 2023.
Through the SHL Program, approximately 120 hectares of mangrove forests have been preserved, absorbing an estimated 265.48 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) has successfully decreased Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels by approximately 48% and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) levels by about 74%. "This program proves the effectiveness of waste treatment in maintaining water quality, making it safer for the environment and the river," Sigid concluded.
