Sangasanga– PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field and the community of RT 18 Sangasanga Dalam Village, Sangasanga, Kutai Kartanegara, collaborated to normalize a 184-meter drainage channel to prevent flooding that often hits the area during the rainy season. The activity took place in three stages, each on May 10, May 29, and June 5, 2025, with full support from various internal functions of the Company and active participation of the community.
This drainage channel normalization activity is part of PEP Sangasanga Field's long-term commitment to supporting the environmental ecosystem, maintaining community safety around the operational area, and strengthening synergy between the Company and residents in facing environmental challenges together. "We want the community to feel the presence of PEP Sangasanga Field not only as an energy company but also as a partner who is ready to be present in the community in critical and urgent situations like this," said the Sr. Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, Sigid Setiawan. He hopes that this activity can have a positive, sustainable impact on both the environment and the social life of the surrounding residents.
Currently, the drainage channel in Sangasanga Dalam Village is experiencing heavy sedimentation, which prevents it from accommodating air discharge during heavy rain. On May 10, 2025, the culvert was cleaned at the three-way intersection behind the Sangasanga District Fire Department Post, which leads to the main river. This cleaning was carried out using a loader unit and wireline. The Company also provided food assistance to the participants of the activity, which supported the smooth running of the event.
Then, on May 29, 2025, dredging was carried out at three points along the drainage channel location in the area behind Sangasanga Market using a mini excavator assisted by the Company. This entire process was coordinated by the Company and carried out through cooperation involving representatives of the residents.
The final stage was carried out on June 5, 2025, in the form of dredging the ditch in the area around the 0906-4/Sangasanga Koramil Office. Dredging was also carried out around the Palagan Field, which supported the preparation for the implementation of the MTQ throughout Sangasanga District, scheduled to take place in the field shortly.
The population in RT 18, Sangasanga Dalam Village, is approximately 100 people, comprising 72 heads of families. Through this ditch normalization assistance, the surrounding community is protected from the threat of flooding. In total, the drainage channels that have been cleaned are approximately 184 meters in length out of a total channel length of around 600 meters.
The Head of Sangasanga Dalam Village, Sri Wahyuni Ernawati, appreciated all parties who have participated. "We would like to thank PEP Sangasanga Field for providing real attention and assistance in normalizing the drainage channels in the RT 18 area and its surroundings. This collaboration not only reduces the risk of flooding but also strengthens the relationship between the Company and the community," said Sri.
Appreciation was also conveyed by the Head of Sangasanga District, Dahcriansyah, for the Company's contribution to flood management efforts. "PT Pertamina EP Sangasanga shows concern for the conditions of the community affected by flooding during the rainy season. The improvements made, such as normalizing ditches and water channels, have greatly helped smooth the flow of water and significantly reduced the risk of flooding. The residents greatly feel the benefits, and we express our appreciation and gratitude for the assistance that has been provided," he said.
