PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Encourages National Media Literacy on the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry Through the APEKA 2025 Journalism Competition

Jakarta – PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) once again held its signature program, Bincang Asik Soal Migas ala PHI (BASO IGA PHI), as a gathering with national media representatives in Jakarta on Friday, September 26, 2025. This year’s event also served as the awarding ceremony for winners of the Anugerah Apresiasi Pewarta Energi Kalimantan (APEKA) 2025, the company’s first-ever journalism competition themed Kalimantan Energy for Indonesia: Action, Inspiration, and Contribution.

Several national journalists who produced outstanding works received the APEKA 2025 Awards. In the Print Media category, awards went to Fazry from Rakyat Merdeka and Euis Rita Hartati from Investor Daily. Meanwhile, in the Online Media category, the winners were Rio Indrawan from Dunia Energi, Ridwan Harahap from OG Indonesia, and Godang Sitompul from Ruang Energi. APEKA 2025 also recognized the Most Active Participants who submitted the highest number of news articles: Ali Rachman from INDOPOSCO and Godang Sitompul from Ruang Energi.

In his remarks, PHI’s Senior Manager Relations, Handri Ramdhani, expressed appreciation for the media’s collaboration and support in delivering accurate, balanced, and educational news about the company and the national upstream oil and gas industry. “We believe that quality reporting fosters public understanding and confidence, encouraging greater support for the upstream oil and gas industry as the front line in strengthening national energy resilience, in line with the government’s Asta Cita goals on energy self-sufficiency,” Handri said.

He emphasized the media’s role as a communication bridge between the public and the company. “Through APEKA, we want to provide recognition to journalists who consistently highlight energy issues, particularly in the upstream sector. Initiatives like BASO IGA PHI are key to building stronger relationships with the media and reinforcing mutual trust for sustainable collaboration,” he added.

Handri also reaffirmed PHI’s commitment to continue collaborating with the media in supporting government policies. “We invite all media partners to strengthen our synergy and ensure that the community truly feels the benefits of the upstream oil and gas industry,” he concluded.

APEKA 2025 was evaluated by an independent panel of judges, including communication expert Kristanto Hartadi, who brings over two decades of experience in journalism, corporate communications, and crisis management. His involvement helped ensure the credibility and objectivity of the judging process. This year, more than 60 journalistic works were submitted for consideration.

Meanwhile, PHI’s Manager of Communication, Relations & CID, Dony Indrawan, explained that APEKA serves as a platform to recognize high-quality journalism that discusses energy issues, especially in the upstream oil and gas sector. “Through APEKA 2025, we aim to support the growth of energy journalists and improve media coverage of the national upstream oil and gas industry, so that it brings tangible benefits to society,” Dony said.

He added that APEKA aims to encourage accurate, balanced, educational, and inspiring journalism that broadens public understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and innovations in the energy sector, particularly upstream oil and gas. “PHI appreciates journalists’ vital role in delivering accurate information and building constructive relationships between the company and the media in providing quality public education,” he continued. Dony noted that the submitted articles were of high quality, making it challenging for the judges to determine the winners.

PHI continues to strengthen positive relations with the media through various engaging and creative programs that foster mutually beneficial collaboration. “At PHI, we believe that competent and ethical journalists are essential to producing quality reporting. During BASO IGA PHI, we also included upskilling sessions covering diverse topics to help enhance journalists’ professional skills. We hope APEKA will further inspire media professionals to deepen their literacy on the upstream oil and gas industry and translate that knowledge into impactful journalism,” Dony concluded.
