Penajam, 24 September 2020 - The “Black Soldier Fly” program or BU LATIH, which is PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) Innovation CSR program, successfully won the main award for Appropriate Technology Innovation Competition organized by the North Penajam Paser (PPU) Regency Planning, Research and Development Agency (Bapelitbang). PPU Balitbang Interim Head, Yunita L. Damayanti, M.E., handed the award directly on 24 September 2020 at the PPU Regent office and was received by PHKT Terminal Lawe-lawe worker, Prayitno. The BU LATIH program in the Innovation Competition represented the Lawe-lawe Subdistrict, Penajam District, PPU and competed against 14 other candidates in the general category.
The Black Soldier Fly cultivation is one of organic waste processing and management through PHKT CSR program in community-based waste management based on the need to manage, process and utilize organic waste in the Penajam District area, PPU Regency. THe organic waste management method was first conducted within the Lawe-lawe Terminal which was then developed and managed by the community to create positive impact to the community's economy.
Before the BU LATIH program started, the community participated in an online black soldier fly cultivation training on 30 August 2020. As much as 3 beneficiary groups of 45 people and PHKT CSR representatives. The training was conducted by Henri Supranto who had long been in the black soldier fly cultivation and owned the Omah Maggot cultivation business in Yogyakarta. Salbiyah, one of the trainee from the Maggot Lestari Group said that the training is very beneficial in providing knowledge in waste management through black soldier fly cultivation to the community. Meanwhile, Indonesian Local Poultry Farmers' Group (HIMPULI) Chairman, Iwan, said that the training was very beneficial, especially for farmers as the BU LATIH prorgram could act as cheaper alternative feed for farm animals.
PHKT Relations Manager Tommy Sibuea said that PHKT was committed to support the government in innovative preservation and environmental management to create values for the environment and community. The BU LATIH program was one of PHKT's CSR programs in the environmental field including 100 units of Waste Banks in PPU and Waste Charity Movement that had also received awards from PPU Regent to PHKT.
“We believe that a sustainable oil and gas operations must be in line with environmental preservation and management that involves the community to support an eco-friendly operations,” Tommy said.
