Muara Badak, East Kalimantan – PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) and PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field held various environmental conservation activities around their operational areas throughout June 2025 in commemoration of World Environment Day, with this year's global theme, "Ending Plastic Pollution." These earth conservation activities included tree planting, environmental education, and forest and land rehabilitation.
The joint tree planting activity took place at the SMUT BD-01 borderless well in Sungai Seluang Village, Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, on June 17, 2025. A total of 200 tree seedlings were planted, consisting of Ulin, Meranti, Mahogany, and Rain Tree species. The reforestation activity, attended by management and representatives from PHSS and PEP Sangasanga Field, demonstrated cross-entity synergy to improve ecosystem quality and support environmental sustainability in the operational work area.
PHSS Field Manager Widhiarto Imam Subarkah stated that the collaboration between PHSS and PEP Sangasanga Field in the tree-planting activity at the SMUT BD-01 borderless well area created a strong sense of collaboration in commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, particularly at Mutiara Field. "This activity represents a form of synergy that deserves appreciation and should be continued. Environmental preservation requires the involvement of all parties, starting with small, consistent actions for greater impact in the future," he added. All activities were carried out in the spirit of collaboration, conservation, and ongoing education.
Muhammad Asad, Acting Senior Field Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, also expressed positive feedback. "We believe this tree-planting activity is very beneficial, especially since PHSS and PEP Sangasanga Field are collaborating well to preserve the environment. I hope this program can continue to preserve our shared environment."
In addition to tree planting, PHSS also conducted environmental education activities for students of SDN 010 Muara Jawa on June 20, 2025. The activities focused on introducing types of waste, the importance of sorting, and efforts to reduce plastic pollution from an early age. The education was delivered interactively through educational materials and sorting simulations, directly involving 50 students in grades 4 and 5. In addition to instilling environmental awareness in children, these activities aimed to shape a younger generation that is responsible for environmental sustainability.
"We would like to thank SDN 010 Muara Jawa for providing PHSS with the opportunity to provide environmental education for elementary school students. As a company, we want to ensure that the commemoration of World Environment Day is not merely a ceremonial event, but a concrete action for a better environmental future," said Widhiarto.
As part of its contribution to ecosystem restoration, PHSS also carried out forest and land rehabilitation in the Bukit Soeharto Grand Forest Park area on 50 hectares of land. The company collaborated with technical implementers appointed by the East Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service. A total of 60,500 trees were planted, comprising various types of timber, such as Ironwood, Meranti, and Mahogany, as well as multipurpose tree species (MPTS), including durian, jengkol, and cempedak.
"With a spirit of collaboration and a commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, PHSS and PEP Sangasanga Field are determined to make this entire series of activities a real contribution to sustainable environmental conservation," he concluded.
