PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) commemorated the World AIDS Day by conducting HIV/AIDS Education and Campaign at the PRCC Auditorium in Pasir Ridge on Friday, 14 December 2018. The Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) representative, Kalsul, Acara tersebut dihadiri perwakilan SKK Migas Kalsul, School Principal Forum representative H Seger Imam Suja’i, 24 High School teachers and more than 120 students in Balikpapan attended the event.
PHKT GM expressed his gratitude to all the attendees and and teachers that attended the event and participated in the HIV/AIDS Education and Campaign.
"The event was part of PHKT's commitment in handling HIV/AIDS for the Balikpapan community, including employees and their families, and all oil and gas workers" Cormas Supriatna said.
"We hope the event could provide information on the impact and HIV/AIDS mode of transmission to reduce the risks of HIV/AIDS transmission in the community" he added.
Balikpapan School Principal representative, Seger Imam Suja'i conveyed his highest appreciation to PHKT for the event on helping the students understand the danger of HIV/AIDS. He hoped that the event would raise the students' awareness to protect themeselves socializing with the general public.
"This event is beneficial for te students" he said.
Seger also expressed his gratitude to PHKT and admitted that the event facilitated all schools to meet with the newly-operational company in East Kalimantan. "As a company that recently operated from the transition from Chevrown, we are proud to meet directly with PHKT," he concluded.
Meanwhile, PHKT Health & Medical dr.Agus Nugroho Triyongko explained that HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that could cause AIDS. “HIV could damage human body's immunity, making the body's immunity to drop significantly and cause AIDS.” he explained. The event also provided explanations about the symptoms, course, transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Agus said that when the HIV test was positive, that did not mean that the individual contracted AIDS. There are many people who are HIV positive for years and live healthily by consuming Antiretroviral (ARV) medication that could weaken and hamper the HIV virus development, while also applying a healthy lifestyle.
Overall, the event went smoothly and all the participants enthusiastically participated in all the prsentations. Questions and discussions revolved around the symptoms, disease course, trasmission and HIV/AIDS prevention that went dynamically. The event was concluded with a joint commitment signing to prevent and handle HIV/AIDS for all participants.
