Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field CSR Program Tante Siska Wins Best Community Program Award for Gold Category in Hanoi

Sangasanga– Pertamina EP (PEP) Sanga Sanga Field through the Setaria Group Social Innovation System Integrated Agricultural Program or Tante Siska won the Gold Category Best Community Program award at the 14th Annual Global CSR Award 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam on November 3, 2022.

Tante Siska's CSR program develops social entrepreneurship through integrated agriculture with a circular and environmentally friendly economic system implemented in Sarijaya Village, Sanga Sanga District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. This program is implemented with the 'Setaria' Farmer Group.

Senior Field Manager of PEP Sanga Sanga Field Gondo Irawan explained that the program was prepared and implemented in 2019-2023 to develop agricultural activities with a rotating economic scheme and social innovation system that prioritizes efficiency and the development of environmentally friendly product diversity.

"One of the efforts made in responding to the decline in productivity and loss of community income caused by the closure of mining companies is to revitalize post-coal mining land into effective agricultural land," explained Gondo.

In its implementation, Gondo added that the Company collaborates with community groups, the government, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. Various activities, such as fertilizer processing, nursery development, and essential oil refining, are carried out in this program.

"The processing of this essential oil into hand sanitizer and marketed in the community to provide additional income for farmer groups. On the other hand, the community is also helped to get hand sanitizers easily according to health standards at affordable prices," he added.

The results of the LPPM Agricultural Service University Study in Bogor in 2020 stated that one of Tante Siska's innovations, namely the firefighting innovation, succeeded in reducing CO2 emissions by 7.76 tons CO2eq/year. This innovation converts fuel fumes into liquid smoke and can be used as a mixture of compost and liquid fertilizer. Fire Innovation is part of the Company's Eco-Innovation, which is integrated with the Company's core values. Thanks to the innovations, the group's income will reach IDR 328.1 million/year in 2021, or more than 27 million per month. In other words, this program has succeeded in responding to problems around the Company's operations.

From an environmental point of view, 1.61 Ha was successfully revitalized and reused, and 7.76 tons of CO2eq/year. The program reduced CO2 emissions. In terms of economy, this program succeeded in obtaining an income of IDR 382.1 million per year and savings in the purchase of fertilizers of IDR 48.3 million per year. A total of 16 farmers manage integrated agriculture, 114 other farmer group members know the same field and as many as 677 beneficiaries of the Tante Siska Program.

Manager of Communication Relations & CID Regional 3 Dony Indrawan stated that the Social Return On Investment (SROI) Study was conducted in 2021 at the CSR Study Center of Padjadjaran University, the SROI ratio value was 1:15.96 for the Tante Siska Program.

"This ratio shows that for every IDR 1 invested by the Company in program empowerment, social benefits worth more than IDR 15.96 can be felt by the community and other stakeholders," explained Dony.

According to Dony, for the sustainability of Tante Siska's program, the Company has carried out disaster mitigation by dividing it into three activities: prevention, preparedness, and recovery. Climate change, floods, and landslides are mapped in disaster prevention efforts to prevent the magnitude of the impact of climate change, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are reduced. Meanwhile, another effort to prevent floods and landslides is to revitalize the land.

In addition, Dony added that PEP Sangasanga carried out efforts to overcome the COVID-19 outbreak in the Aunt Siska Program environment under predetermined Health protocols, such as facilitating hand sanitizers made of citronella in the surrounding environment.

The success of the Tante Siska Program is in line with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 15 in protecting terrestrial ecosystems. SDGs number 13, in tackling climate change. SDG number 8 supports inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work. And SDGs number 1 to eradicate poverty.
