Pertamina EP Bunyu and Tarakan Field Preserve the Environment Through the Waste Management Innovation CSR Program

Bulungan, North Kalimantan– PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field and PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field run a CSR program based on waste management innovation, namely the Waste Free Work Alliance Program (Wet Root) and the Mandiri Sejahtera Waste Bank Program (Sampah Manise) as a form of commitment Company in protecting and preserving the environment.

In line with these two CSR programs, at the commemoration of the last World Environment Day, PEP Bunyu Field and PEP Tarakan Field also supported the Coastal Clean Up activity with the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution", which was carried out simultaneously on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Nibung Beach, Bunyu Island; and Mamolo Beach, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan.

This beach cleaning activity is a joint movement involving various parties, including the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), local government, and local communities, which is carried out simultaneously at 135 locations in 37 provinces throughout Indonesia to invite all levels of society to participate in the fight and control of plastic waste pollution.

Zone 10 General Manager in charge of PEP Tarakan and Bunyu Field Djudjuwanto explained that the company continues to support the government in efforts to protect and preserve the environment. "The theme against plastic pollution in beach clean-up activities is in line with our CSR program, namely the Waste Free Work Alliance Program (Wet Roots).

According to him, the Wet Roots Program is here to offer an alternative solution: replacing used plastic bottles with eco-friendly seaweed floats that are stronger and can be used long-term. Akar Basah also educates the public to consider the negative impacts of seaweed farming activities on the environment.

Meanwhile, Djudjuwanto also explained that the Manise Garbage Bank Program, consisting of the Basic Food Savings Program and the SERGAP Program, uses sawdust as a medium for handling loss wells. "Through this program, there is an increase in income through the sale of organic fertilizers and sawdust, and farmer groups get easier access to organic fertilizers. Garbage Bank customers will benefit from basic food savings points from garbage savings and enjoy a cleaner environment," concluded Djudjuwanto.

Nunukan Regent Asmin Laura Hafid, who participated in the beach clean-up activities, invited the community to work together to keep the environment beautiful and free from waste, especially plastic waste. "Programs related to the environment that the government is currently carrying out require support and synergy from the community so that the community will also enjoy environmental cleanliness," explained Laura.
