North Penajam Paser—To support the government’s vision for achieving Golden Indonesia 2045, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) has launched its flagship CSR program in education, the Sobat Bumi Kalimantan Scholarship (BSBK). This program, a collaboration between PHI and Pertamina Foundation (PF), aims to support the educational needs of young people in Kalimantan, especially by providing access to higher education.
One of the scholarship recipients, Veby Nurul Sakinah, now a Civil Engineering student at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology, shared her inspirational story. As the eldest of four siblings in a family of modest means, Veby is deeply motivated to pursue her dream of becoming an engineer. With a father who works as a farmer and a mother who manages the household, Veby is determined to give her best for her family.
While in high school, Veby actively participated in various activities to hone her skills. Her efforts paid off when she was accepted into the Kalimantan Institute of Technology through the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) pathway. “I am very grateful and didn’t expect to succeed. I will use the BSBK scholarship as best as possible to support my education,” Veby said, hoping the program will continue to help young people in Indonesia.
Through BSBK, scholarship recipients receive financial assistance and have the opportunity to contribute to environmental preservation programs that align with PHI’s sustainability vision. Veby hopes to impact the community in Kalimantan, particularly in infrastructure positively, and sees her profession as a way to help build the nation.
The BSBK program aims to provide hope to young people in Kalimantan who are striving for higher education. PHI’s Communications and Public Relations Manager, Dony Indrawan, affirmed that the program reflects the company’s commitment to supporting education. “Hopefully, this scholarship will equip the young generation to face the increasingly competitive global market,” he said.
The year 2024 marks the first year of BSBK, which PHI subsidiaries, including PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga, and PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur fully support. The program is designed to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in education, clean energy, and climate action.
With this initiative, PHI demonstrates a concrete commitment to advancing education and environmental preservation in Indonesia while inspiring the younger generation to reach for their dreams. Veby and 14 other BSBK scholarship recipients are ready to realize their dreams and pursue a brighter future.
