Supporting Village Clean Water Access and Management, PHI Zona 9 Replicates CSR Programs of Companies Across Provinces

Kutai Kartanegara – PT Pertamina (PEP) Tanjung Field and PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) are supporting the development of PHSS's Saliki Water Supply System (WSS) CSR program for replication in Masukau Village, located near PEP Tanjung Field's operational area in South Kalimantan. On June 11, 2025, the Company assisted government representatives and residents of Masukau Village, Murung Pudak District, Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan, in conducting a comparative study regarding clean water access and management at the Saliki Water Supply System (WSS) facility in Saliki Village, Muara Badak District, Kutai Kartanegara.

This comparative study is part of an effort to address the limited access to clean water experienced in several areas in Masukau Village. Representatives of the Masukau Village Government attended, along with the Village Consultative Body (BPD) and the Remaja Karya Village-Owned Enterprise/Badan Usaha Milik Desa (BUMDes). They were welcomed directly by the Saliki Village Government, the management of the Mekar Sejati BUMDes, and key figures behind the success of the Saliki WSS clean water management system.

The Head of Masukau Village, Khairullah, expressed his deepest gratitude to PEP Tanjung Field and PHSS for facilitating this comparative study. He stated that this activity had provided a wealth of valuable knowledge for his village officials. "We hope that in the future, we can also implement a WSS program like this in Masukau Village," he added.

The event opened with a presentation by the Head of Saliki Village, Saliansyah, who outlined the background to the development of the Saliki WSS, including the importance of collaboration between the community, village government, and companies in creating sustainable solutions. Next, the Director of the Mekar Sejati Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), Edi M. Nur, explained the BUMDes' management strategy for managing the WSS business unit and the importance of product diversification so that the BUMDes can independently support clean water service activities.

Lukman, a Professional Companion (TPP) for the Village Community Development and Empowerment Program (P3MD), also provided insights into the innovation and transformation of Saliki Village through WSS management, including the achievements of regional and international awards. Meanwhile, Masyhur "Mace" Amhas, the technical manager of the Saliki WSS, shared his experience regarding the system's operations, from equipment specifications to the filtration process and water distribution to the community.

Following the presentation, participants visited the Saliki WSS facility to observe the comprehensive clean water filtration process and engage in direct discussions with the field managers. This comparative study is part of PEP Tanjung Field's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program which supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 6 on Fulfillment of Basic Needs for Clean Water and Adequate Sanitation.

Elis Fauziyah, Head of Communication Relations & CID Zona 9, stated that the WSS facility in Saliki Village has proven successful and has had a positive impact on the surrounding community. Through this activity, the Remaja Karya Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) can replicate community-based clean water management, similar to that implemented by the Mekar Sejati Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) in Saliki Village. In addition to fulfilling the community's fundamental rights, this clean water system also has the potential to become a source of sustainable village income," she said.

According to Elis, the comparative study is part of the Company's efforts to support village development based on the real needs of the community. "We are implementing innovative and sustainable CSR programs as a form of commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, with the hope of having a significant and sustainable impact on the community and the environment," she added.

This comparative study emphasizes the importance of synergy between subsidiaries and affiliates within the PHI environment in sharing solutions, strengthening local capacity, and accelerating participatory and inclusive village development.
