Balikpapan- PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), through its subsidiary PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), in collaboration with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities/Satuan Kerja Khusus Pelaksana Kegiatan Usaha Hulu Minyak dan Gas Bumi (SKK Migas) has inaugurated the Bekapai Artificial Lift (Bekapai AL) Project, Peciko 8A and 8B Projects, to support the achievement of the national oil and gas production target. The inauguration of the three projects in the Mahakam Working Area (WK) was attended by Deputy Head of SKK Migas Shinta Damayanti in an event at the PHM Balikpapan Base Office on July 8, 2024.
In his speech, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi said that PHM continues to strive to carry out safe upstream oil and gas operations. This project can be completed safely and without incident with up to 940,000 person-hours.
"The Bekapai AL project is to install a Gas Lift Compressor on the existing Bekapai BA platform with gas-lift injected into wells on the existing Bekapai BG and BL platforms. The injection of gas-lift into the wells on the platform also marked the first gas-in or onstream stage, which occurred on May 24, 2024. After a 72-hour nonstop trial operation, the Bekapai AL Project was declared complete and fully operational on June 2, 2024. The installation of the Gas Artificial Lift provided a production gain of around 2,500 BOPD," Setyo explained.
Meanwhile, the Peciko 8A—SWPG Debottlenecking Project—through the installation of a Booster Compressor Package, Liquid Transfer Pump, and Diesel Engine Generator—is PHM's pilot project for producing oil and gas in Low-Low-Pressure (LLP) mode on the existing SWPG platform. The production gain is 6 MMscfd and is expected to increase to 8 MMscfd.
According to Setyo, the Peciko 8B Project involves installing a Booster Compressor Package, Liquid Transfer Pump, and Diesel Engine Generator on the MWPA and MWPB platforms in the Peciko offshore field. The project is a continuation of PHM's efforts to increase gas and condensate production from the Peciko Field.
"We continue to carry out upstream oil and gas operations that are effective, superior, and environmentally friendly so that WK Mahakam can produce oil and gas sustainably and contribute significantly to the addition of reserves and the achievement of national oil and gas production targets," Setyo explained.
Deputy Head of SKK Migas Shinta Damayanti said that the inauguration of these three projects is a significant achievement and shows that the national upstream oil and gas industry is still moving amid the tough challenges. This inauguration proves that SKK Migas, Cooperation Contractors/Kontraktor Kontrak Kerja Sama (KKKS), and other supporting businesses continue to devote all their power and efforts to maintaining national production. "These projects will contribute to increasing gas production capacity by 36 MMSCFD, oil and condensate by 16,000 BOPD. The expected peak production from the three projects for gas is 11.9 MMSCFD and oil and condensate is 2,025 BOPD," Shinta said. SKK Migas appreciates various KKKS efforts to make breakthroughs and increase efficiency in field development.
This PHM achievement is part of the ongoing success in supporting the achievement of the upstream oil and gas vision and increasing the synergy of all upstream oil and gas people. The availability of energy supply in East Kalimantan, in particular, and Indonesia, in general, can benefit national economic growth and become a legacy for the community.
On a separate occasion, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) Sunaryanto explained that PHI and its subsidiaries and affiliates continue investing in exploration drilling and developing oil and gas fields to find new resources. "Through the three projects that have been inaugurated, we are confident that we can continue to carry out operations and business in a sustainable manner to support Pertamina's energy transition policy and the achievement of the national production target of 1 million barrels of oil and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas by 2030," he added.
According to Anto, the company applies environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles to its operations and business activities to produce sustainable energy for Indonesia.
"We apply best practices to maintain production levels and arrest the rate of natural production decline to support achieving Indonesia's energy security," he concluded.
