Supporting National Energy Resilience, Pertamina EP Tarakan Field Begins Drilling Two New Oil Wells

Tarakan, North Kalimantan– Investment in development drilling continues within Subholding Upstream Regional 3 Zona 10. Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field commenced drilling two new oil wells, Pamusian PAM SE-1 and PAM SE-2, in Kampung Satu, Tarakan City, on August 16, 2024. The drilling of these two wells is part of a plan to drill five wells this year.

Tarakan Field Manager Cahyo Tri Mulyanto stated that this drilling is a strategic step by the company to maintain oil and gas production levels from its current assets. He noted that the Pamusian area has made significant contributions since the 1900s and still holds potential for further development. “The drilling of Pamusian PAM SE-1 and PAM SE-2 is expected to provide additional production of hundreds of barrels of oil per day to sustain Tarakan Field’s production and support national energy supply,” he said.

In addition to focusing on production enhancement, PEP Tarakan Field is also committed to reducing carbon emissions, in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises/Kementerian BUMN and PT Pertamina (Persero) to achieve net zero emissions based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Furthermore, the company prioritizes Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects in its oil and gas operations. “We believe that improving HSSE performance will support safe, effective, reliable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable oil and gas operations,” emphasized Cahyo.

Before drilling the well, PEP Tarakan Field held a thanksgiving and prayer event attended by several officials and community leaders, including PJ. Mayor of Tarakan, Tarakan City Police Chief, and Dandim 0907 Tarakan City. Not only that, PEP Tarakan Field showed social care by assisting the surrounding community, including orphanages and residents. One of them is providing employment insurance to people with disabilities, media colleagues, and 50 UMKM in Tarakan City. Pertamina collaborates with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.  The collaboration is expected to increase public awareness of the importance of work safety.
