Support for Mangrove Tourism Area: PHE Nunukan Company Aids in Bridge Infrastructure Improvement on Bunyu Island

Bunyu Island- Pertamina Hulu Energi Nunukan Company (PHENC) has partnered with PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field to inaugurate and hand over a bridge repair assistance program for the Mangrove Bridge in Bunyu Barat Village, Bulungan, North Kalimantan, on August 3, 2024. The infrastructure improvement is expected to support Bunyu Barat Village's vision of becoming a mangrove tourism area and boost the local economy.

The inauguration and symbolic handover were conducted by Acting Senior Manager of PEP Bunyu Field, Benny Kawira, to the Head of Bunyu Barat Village, Suhadi, in the presence of the Regent, Secretary, and members of the Bulungan Regency DPRD, as well as representatives from the Bunyu Sub-district. The repair of this 140-meter-long bridge began in 2023. Previously, parts of the bridge were weakened or damaged, making it hazardous for residents, thus necessitating repairs supported by the Company.

Benny Kawira stated that repairing the Mangrove Bridge demonstrates the Company's commitment to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to support community development, particularly in infrastructure. "This program is a step towards synchronizing efforts to support Bunyu Barat Village's goal of becoming a mangrove tourism area. We hope that by improving road and bridge infrastructure, the economic activity will increase, providing benefits and value to be enjoyed collectively," he added.

The program is intended to support community development and independence in line with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), precisely Goal 1 on Ending Poverty, Goal 5 on Gender Equality, and Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production.

Meanwhile, Bulungan Regent Syarwani expressed his appreciation to PHENC and PEP Bunyu Field for their contribution to infrastructure development on Bunyu Island, particularly the Mangrove Bridge. "This represents a collaboration between the government and the Company. I hope this good cooperation continues for the development of Bunyu Island," said Syarwani.
