Palembang - The Borneo Fire Fighter & Rescuer (BFFR) team once again achieved national-level recognition by clinching the overall champion title in the Pertamina Fire Fighting & First Aid Challenge (PFRC). The award was handed over by Pertamina's SVP HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment), Lelin Eprianto, directly during the Conclusion Event of Pertamina's Occupational Safety and Health/ Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja (K3) Month 2024 in Sungai Gerong, Palembang, on March 5, 2024.
BFFR is a collaborative team composed of firefighters and rescuers from subsidiaries and affiliates of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), namely PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tanjung Field, PEP Sangasanga Field, PEP Sangatta Field, and PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), all of which are part of Zone 9 Subholding Upstream Regional 3 Kalimantan. Zona 9 General Manager Andre Wijanarko expressed appreciation for BFFR's achievement. "We believe that superior safety performance will support the success and sustainability of the Company's oil and gas production, which is crucial in meeting the national energy needs. The achievement in this PFRC event is one of the results of our efforts to improve safety performance," he said.
In this event, the BFFR team dominated nine competition categories, thus winning the overall champion title, including 1st place in Manifold Fire, 1st place in Smoke Chamber, 1st place in Structure Fire, 1st place in First Aid, 1st place in Individual NAPFA, 2nd place in Group NAPFA, 3rd place in Fire Combat, Best Captain, and Best Yel-Yel (cheer). Some key aspects of evaluation include team command or control factors related to firefighting and rescue preparations, appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), technical aspects of firefighting/rescue, medical aspects such as first aid, and application of the National Physical Fitness Awards (NAPFA) standards.
According to him, safety is a priority and the main foundation in all upstream oil and gas operations and business activities of the Company. Andre highlighted the significance of each person's contribution to upholding safety principles, policies, regulations, and best practices to prevent accidents or incidents.
Furthermore, Andre emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to jointly protect human safety and security, the environment, and the Company's assets, which are vital national assets. "The ability to handle fire incidents is crucial. Therefore, we always involve all relevant stakeholders when conducting fire incident drills or exercises to create a shared understanding and capability," explained Andre.
"The achievements of BFFR motivate us to continually improve the Company's safety performance to support the sustainability of Indonesia's oil and gas production," he concluded.
