PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga Provides Clean Water Access for 326 Heads of Families through an Innovative Water Supply System in Saliki Village

Kutai Kartanegara - PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) continues to strive to carry out sustainable community empowerment through the Saliki Water Supply System (WSS) program. PHSS has succeeded in assisting the people of Saliki Village in clean water management through the innovation of activated charcoal biofilters from coconut waste as an environmentally friendly natural purifier.

The WSS program is a PHSS CSR program that provides community-based clean water facilities integrated with drinking water services managed by BUMDES Mekar Sejati Saliki Village. The WSS Saliki program has been operating since 2018 and successfully serves clean water supplies to 326 households.

Head of MSMEs Amplang H. Siti Aisyah told about the water condition in Saliki Village before assistance from PHSS. Before the implementation of this innovation, the people of Saliki Village had difficulty getting clean water, where even one well had to alternate with five other houses.

However, this limitation does not prevent the people of Saliki village from continuing to struggle to find a source of clean water. "Since there is assistance from PHSS, people no longer find it difficult to get clean water such as washing children's clothes," said Siti Aisyah.

Plant Operations Supervisor Farid Anwar explained that this biofilter innovation could ensure that WSS Saliki produces clean water that meets the standards of Permenkes number 32 of 2017 so that it is safe for all Saliki residents. "This Eco-Innovation is the use of environmentally friendly activated charcoal biofilters, through collective clean water management through BumDes Mekar Sari," said Farid.

The Head of Saliki Village, Saliansyah, revealed that the Saliki Village Government appreciates PHSS for developing the Water Supply System Program so that people can enjoy clean water that has been difficult to obtain. "We are also proud of this achievement which is the fruit of good cooperation between PHSS, the village government, and the Drinking Water Management Facilities Management Group (KPSPAM)," said Saliansyah.

PHSS Field Manager Ade Diar Suhendar said that PHSS constantly collaborates with all stakeholders, especially the community and the government, in carrying out the company's CSR programs to create benefits and values that are enjoyed together (creating shared value).

"The hope is that Saliki Village can become an independent village in providing clean water, and can be an example for other villages, especially in Kutai Kartanegara regency. Since the replication of the WSS Saliki program in 2020, 160 water connections have been installed in Samberah village and Mini WSS replication in Kampung Nilam Center for 148 prospective recipients of clean water," added Ade. Ade added that various regional economic businesses are also increasingly advanced, including the emergence of 3 groups of shrimp and crab cleaning collectors, four amplang business groups, three food stall groups, WSS Refill Drinking Water Depot Business "SIAGARO", as well as beauty salons and laundry.

East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor expressed his appreciation to PHSS for the WSS Saliki program, which has collaborated with providing clean water suitable for consumption for 354 heads of families in Muara Badak.

This year PHSS also had the opportunity to become a candidate for the Golden Environmental Management Company Performance Rating (PROPER) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) RI. Gold Proper is the highest award level, meaning that the company has managed the environment beyond what is required.
