PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam's Manpatu Project Advances, Enters Jacket Load Out and Sail Away Stage

PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam's Manpatu Project Advances, Enters Jacket Load Out and Sail Away Stage

Balikpapan – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) successfully carried out the Manpatu Jacket Load Out activity as part of the Manpatu Development Project, held at the fabrication yard of PT Meindo Elang Indah in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, on 26 March 2026. The jacket load out marks the continuation of the project milestone following the first cut of steel completed in May 2025 and will be followed by the planned Jacket Sail Away stage.

The Manpatu Project is the development of the Manpatu exploration well discovery located in the South Mahakam offshore field, approximately 35 kilometers off the coast of Balikpapan within PHM's operational area in East Kalimantan, at a water depth of 50 to 60 meters. The project is designed to support PHM's gas and oil (condensate) production increase, with a design capacity of up to 80 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day).

The project scope includes the fabrication and installation of one new platform consisting of a Jacket and Piles with a total weight of approximately 1,380 tons, and a Topside weighing approximately 1,100 tons, as well as modifications to one existing platform. In addition, the project includes the installation of a 14-inch subsea pipeline approximately 2.5 kilometers long, along with high-complexity, high-risk subsea works. Overall, the project includes drilling 11 development wells.

PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi reaffirmed the Company's commitment to supporting national oil and gas production targets through sustainable investment in drilling activities, both for exploitation and exploration. "We consistently encourage innovation and the application of technology based on best practices in the upstream oil and gas industry, both nationally and globally, implemented in an integrated manner across all operational and business aspects of the Company," said Setyo.

Through this project, PHM has also achieved an important milestone in increasing the Domestic Component Level/Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri (TKDN). The Manpatu Project has fully implemented the use of locally manufactured Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) pipelines top-to-bottom, covering subsea piping systems, risers, and pipe bends, marking the first such implementation in the Mahakam area.

At the same time, PHM ensures that every project is carried out optimally while prioritizing occupational safety, aiming for a zero-incident target. In execution, the Manpatu Project has achieved a significant safety milestone of more than 2 million manhours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) as of March 2026. With the overall scale of work being substantial, total project manhours are projected to exceed three million manhours upon completion.

The Manpatu Project is a fast-track project with a highly demanding schedule since the gas discovery at the Manpatu-1x exploration well in the first quarter of 2022. As Pertamina continues managing wells that have entered mature production phases, continuous innovation and creativity are required at every project stage. These efforts are considered key factors in accelerating the realization of the Government's national energy resilience goals.

The project's success depends heavily on strong synergy and coordination among all stakeholders, including the Engineering, Procurement, Supply, Construction, and Commissioning (EPSCC) contractors. As Pertamina plans a significant increase in project development starting in 2025, effective collaboration becomes increasingly important. Therefore, collective commitment to maintaining the on-stream target according to schedule must continue to be strengthened to ensure overall project success.

The jacket load-out and sail-away process represents one of the strategic achievements in the implementation of the Manpatu Project. This will be followed by topside loadout and sailaway in mid-April 2026. Jacket and topside installation are scheduled for April to May 2026, with the complete platform expected to be installed in PHM's operational area by the beginning of the third quarter of 2026. The project is targeted to begin onstream in the first quarter of 2027.
