PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Reduces Carbon Emissions through Dual Fuel Diesel Innovation

Balikpapan - PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has reduced carbon emissions through innovation and technology conversion in the operational marine transportation sector by applying environmentally friendly technology, namely converting diesel engines in crew boats into Dual Diesel Fuel (DDF).

During rising fuel prices, high marine fleet operations and diesel consumption have encouraged PHM to make cost efficiencies by combining gas (LNG) and diesel fuel for crew boat operations in Senipah.

General Manager of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Regional 3 Kalimantan Zone 8, Krisna, said that the application of DDF conversion innovation and technology is a form of the company's commitment to running efficient and increasingly environmentally friendly oil and gas operations.

"This innovation aims to improve the company's performance in the environmental sector while saving costs. With this innovation, the company is reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuels. This conversion has the potential to reduce diesel fuel dependence by 6,020 KL of diesel per year for 10 crew boats, with a potential cost reduction of 4.1 M $ per year", said Krisna.

Furthermore, Krisna explained that the engine conservation program with DDF technology for Marine Engines provides long-term benefits for the company and related stakeholders.

President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Chalid Said Salim, said that the sustainability of the company's oil and gas operations and business plays an essential role in supporting the sustainability of the national energy supply and Indonesia's economic development.

"The Senipah-based Diesel Dual Fuel crew boat is an effort to optimize operating costs, protect the environment, and support the government's energy diversification policy," said Chalid.
