Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) recorded two new records: the most extended drilling as deep as 3,346 meters in one series and the fastest drilling reaching 40.6 meters/hour in offshore drilling activities in South Mahakam. With this achievement, PHM can save time and drilling costs, reducing the Company's oil and gas operating costs.
PHM General Manager, Krisna said that the success of this drilling could eliminate the potential loss of drilling mud and increase the potential for oil and gas discoveries in the reservoir zone, which PHM had never done before.
"The company continues implementing various innovations and technologies in carrying out the company's oil and gas operations and business, one of which is in drilling activities, by implementing the best practices in the national and world oil and gas industry," Krisna explained.
This longest drilling performance used the Hakuryu-14 Rig in the JM-101.G1 well, Jempang Metulang field, South Mahakam, with a hole section interval of 8.5 inches. At the same time, the fastest drilling rate (On Bottom Rate of Penetration /OB ROP) occurred in well JM-101.G1, which reached an OB ROP of 40.6 meters/hour. This speed increased by 150% from the previous average drilling speed on the JM-1 platform, which was in the OB ROP range of 15 meters/hour. In addition, PHM also set a record for the fastest milling operation in the JM-107.G1 well. Drilled with casing 9-5/8", the milling operation of JM-107.G1 only takes 2.5 hours.
Krisna also added that this achievement was realized through harmonious collaboration and synergy between the Company and partners, including applying innovation and technology needed to achieve operational excellence. In the drilling at Hakuryu-14, PHM, and partners applied an innovation from the Maxi Drill project by utilizing the Motorized Rotary Steerable System (RSS) in the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA), which uses drill bits that are suitable for formation conditions. Innovation is also carried out by optimizing drilling parameters which impacts increasing drilling performance.
