Kutai Kartanegara- PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), through its CSR program, also supports the provision of access to electricity based on new and renewable energy for communities around the company's operational areas. PHM runs 2 special CSR programs based on solar power: the Shining Flower Program in the Muara Kembang Village and Sharing Renewable Energy (BEST) in Tani Baru Village.
PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Regional 3 Kalimantan Communication Relations & CID Manager in charge of PHM, Dony Indrawan, explained the company's commitment to providing electricity and lighting for the coastal areas of the Mahakam Delta, which have limited access to reach.
"The use of the solar home system in the Kembang Bersinar and BEST programs has reduced the cost of diesel for generators by the community by more than Rp. 700 million/year and reducing carbon emissions to 375.61 tons of CO2eq/year," said Dony.
Furthermore, Dony added that this program had a measurable impact on the community's economic, environmental, social, and well-being aspects. The two programs succeeded in providing lighting for community homes and public facilities, such as places of worship, community meeting halls, health facilities, and schools in the coastal villages of the Mahakam Delta.
One is SDN 014 Anggana Desa Tani Baru, which can only be reached by going along the river by boat/boat. At this school, PHM runs the Forest Swamp School Program to improve the quality of access and educational facilities, edupreneurship development, environmental preservation, and renewable energy development in the form of access to solar electricity.
Last year in the Forest Swamp School program, PHM added access to electricity by installing a solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 2.2 kW. This solar panel is a continuation of the provision of a solar home system previously installed at the school. With the installation of this PLTS, it is hoped that it can accommodate all the electricity needs in schools, both for lighting and the use of electricity during teaching and learning activities.
"Apart from producing electricity which reaches 3,043 kWh/year, it can support a reduction in carbon emissions of 2,860 kg CO2/year," explained Dony.
The Principal of SDN 014 Anggana, Sumargoto, stated that adequate access to electricity would help improve people's lives, including teaching and learning activities at school. "With the addition of this electrical installation, the school's current electricity needs are completely fulfilled. We can do full activities during the day using a computer or laptop and study at night," he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, Chalid Said Salim, said the company is committed to supporting community independence.
"In line with the energy transition plan and Pertamina's aspirations to develop a Self-Sufficient Energy Village, especially through the New Renewable Energy (EBT) development program, the provision of access to solar electricity by PHM and other PHI subsidiaries is aimed at bridging the electricity access gap faced by the community, especially in rural areas. The company's operations in Kalimantan," said Chalid.
Utilizing NRE by providing solar electricity can support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7. From an environmental aspect, the program also contributes to SDG's 13 in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The use of EBT in schools also supports SDG 4, namely Quality Education.
