Jakarta- PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), through one of its community development programs, namely the Forest Swamp School Program, continues to encourage the success of schools in remote areas to produce outstanding students. Just like Idul just won, a student of SMPN 6 Anggana, one of PHM's target schools, won first place in an international drawing event titled Fish Art Contest.
Fish Art Contest is a competition organized by Wildlife Forever, a non-profit conservation organization based in the United States, which focuses on conservation education for children and youth. This annual competition is attended by participants from more than 35 countries, such as the United States, Australia, China, Japan, Qatar, and Russia. The competition was held in four groups of educational levels, namely; K-3rd Grade (Class 1-3 SD), 4th-6th Grade (Grade 4-6 SD), 7th-9th Grade (Class 7-9 SMP), and 10th-12th Grade (Class 10-12 SMA). In addition, the competition is also categorized into four championships, namely, state & national winners for participants from the United States, as well as specialty & international winners. Eid, who is currently in grade 8 at SMPN 06 Anggana, draws walleye fish, a Native American freshwater fish,
Head of Communication Relations & CID Zone 8 Frans Alexander Hukom said that SMPN 06 Anggana is a PHM-fostered school in the Mahakam Delta, which is part of the Forest Swamp School Program with SDN 01 Anggana and SMPN 04 Anggana, all three of which are schools in remote areas.
"This program includes coaching to encourage improving the quality of educational access and facilities, edupreneurship development, environmental preservation, including the use of New & Renewable Energy (EBT) in the form of the use of solar cells, as well as the support of three driving teachers to overcome educational gaps that occur in remote areas, explained Francis.
According to Frans, one of the mentoring activities of the Mobilizing Teacher is encouraging students to explore their interests and talents, including in the arts. PHM's Mover Teachers, Febri Hermawan and Kurnia Sandy, are the teachers who accompany Eid in the Fish Art Contest. "Idul's achievements prove that getting an education in a remote area is not a barrier to work and achievement," said Frans.
In the 2022-2023 period, the PHM community development program in education focuses on linear undergraduate scholarship programs for teachers and undergraduate scholarships for students, assisting in university entrance selection. "In 2022, 51 coastal village students from the Forest Swamp School have successfully passed the selection to enter State Universities (PTN) in East Kalimantan," he concluded.
