Jakarta – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Nunukan Company (PHENC) is currently preparing a revision for the development plan (POD 1) for the Badik and West Badik Fields located in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province. According to the plan, drilling activities are scheduled to commence in early 2027, enabling gas production from both fields to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Senior Manager Relations at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Handri Ramdhani, stated that Pertamina continues to invest in exploration and exploitation activities for oil and gas fields to support Indonesia's oil and gas production 2030 targets. "We are continuously drilling new wells as a strategic measure to maintain the production levels of the oil and gas fields under our management," said Handri. PHENC operates under the coordination of PHI-Regional 3 Kalimantan.
The progress of the Badik and West Badik Fields' development aligns with PHENC's strategy to enhance production within the Nunukan Block's Working Area (WK). The updated POD 1 outcome will undergo review by SKK Migas for endorsement.
Besides the mentioned fields, the Nunukan WK also has other potentials, such as the Parang Field, which is estimated to have resources of 91 Billion Cubic Feet (BCF) based on the results of drilling three exploration wells: Parang 1 (2016-2017), Parang 2, and Parang 3 (2020-2021). These estimates have been recorded in the reporting of oil and gas resources as of January 1, 2024.
Handri hopes for the support of stakeholders in the vicinity of the Nunukan WK operations to ensure the smooth progress of the development plans for the Badik and West Badik Fields. "We believe that the sustainability of the company's oil and gas investments will have a multiplier effect on economic development, job creation, local business growth, government revenue, and community empowerment," he said.
Moreover, the company's operations and business continuity are vital for bolstering Pertamina's energy transition policy and achieving the national production target of 1 million barrels of oil and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas by 2030. "We are implementing innovations and technologies to improve the recovery rate of onshore and offshore oil wells in the Kalimantan region," Handri added.
