PT Pertamina EP Tarakan Field Successfully Builds New Berthing Facility (Dolphin) in Bunyu Island Waters

BALIKPAPAN - PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Fied, part of the Sub holding Upstream Regional 3 Kalimantan Zona 10, has completed the New Berthing Facility (Dolphin) construction project in the waters of Bunyu Island, North Kalimantan, on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

The Dolphin platform consists of 3 platforms which oil barge mooring facility in the waters of Bunyu Island at a seawater depth of 20 ft which that used for unloading crude Sembakung Tarakan Field. The unloading line facility at the new Dolphin was successfully operated for the first time on 27-28 December 2021 as one of the main milestones of this project.
The General Manager of Zona 10, Raam Krisma, explained that the Company managed to accelerate project completion by up to 18 months compared to the initial plan and overall managed to save up to Rp 130 billion in investment costs. According to him, the Company has also succeeded in making the AMS (Anchor Mooring System) rental cost-efficient at 7 billion rupiahs per year considering that since 2019 Pertamina EP had to rent AMS as an oil barge mooring facility, while the unloading line series remained on the existing Dolphin Platform.
According to Krisna, a significant change in strategy was carried out when the reorganization of the Upstream Subholding was set for April 1, 2021. PEP Bunyu and PEP Tarakan merged into Zona 10 where there is a PHKT that has operated offshore facilities in the Attaka & East Kalimantan Working Areas (WK) for the last 50 years.
“We at Zona 10 synergize and collaborate to develop strategies with the main criteria of safety aspects in operations. As for the cost aspect, evaluation of various strategies has been carried out thoroughly with the principle of total life cycle or total cost of ownership, which considers the amount of investment and operational costs over the entire period so that this project can be carried out safely, effectively and efficiently, "said Krisna.
"Encouraged by the Go Collaborative spirit, PEP Tarakan Field is the pioneer of the Farm-In contract with PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) where PEP Tarakan Field is the Cost Recovery PSC with PHKT as the Gross Split PSC in this project," he concluded.
This project is one effort of Subholding Upstream Regional 3 Kalimantan Zone 10 to maintain oil and gas production to meet national energy needs. PEP Tarakan Field is committed to continuing to maintain the production level that has been achieved so far with operational excellence, which is at a production rate of 2,000 BOPD.
