Kutai Kartanegara – In addition to supporting national energy resilience, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) continues to strengthen the capacity of communities surrounding its operational areas, particularly students, in understanding basic disaster preparedness and safety knowledge. On May 21, 2026, PHSS organized fire mitigation education and socialization activities for students of SMKN 1 Muara Badak.
The activity, which took place from 09.00 to 12.00 WITA and was attended by approximately 250 students, was directly coordinated by the PHSS Emergency Response Team (ERT). The program aimed to build early awareness and understanding regarding preparedness and safety practices within schools and communities.
During the activity, students received theoretical explanations of fire hazards, potential risks, and fire mitigation methods, followed by practical training in using fire extinguishers (APAR) and fire blankets. One of the materials delivered explained the fire triangle concept, which consists of oxygen, fuel, and heat as the three essential elements that cause fire incidents. Participants were trained to prevent or extinguish fires by covering fire sources with fire blankets to deprive them of oxygen and stop combustion.
A total of 15 students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on practice with fire extinguishers and fire blankets to strengthen their technical understanding of fire mitigation. Participants showed strong enthusiasm throughout the session, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of safety aspects from an early age. One student stated that the materials and practical sessions were highly relevant and beneficial for daily life, particularly for vocational students who would later work closely with equipment and high-risk environments, including potential fire hazards.
Principal of SMKN 1 Muara Badak, Syifa Hanum Budiawati S.TP, expressed appreciation for the educational activity conducted by PHSS. “We would like to thank PHSS for providing our students with knowledge regarding fire handling, not only through theoretical explanations but also direct practical demonstrations, enabling our students to implement the knowledge gained,” she stated.
PHSS Field Manager, Iva Kurnia Mahardi, reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to continuously supporting community capacity-building and maintaining harmonious relationships with all stakeholders in the operational areas. “Skills in handling fire incidents will support collective efforts to maintain the safety and security of communities and the environment from potential fire hazards,” she explained.
Iva also emphasized the importance of maintaining harmonious relationships with all stakeholders to ensure safety and security in the Company’s operational areas. “Harmonious relationships with communities and the environment surrounding the Company’s operational areas in Muara Badak will support the sustainability of oil and gas production, which is important for national energy resilience while also creating added value for communities surrounding the operational areas,” said Iva.
In the previous year, PHSS also conducted road safety education for students at the same school as part of efforts to build a safety culture among younger generations from an early age.
