Sangasanga – Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field held a river cleanup activity with stakeholders in the Sanga Sanga Dalam area, Sangasanga District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency (19/03/23). This activity is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program assisted by PEP Sangasanga Field, namely the Waste Management Program for Prosperity (PRAKARSA).

This river-cleaning activity is also a response to the conditions and needs of the community. In recent years, the area adjacent to the river in Sanga-Sanga Dalam Village has experienced flooding during heavy rainfall. Piles of waste that need to be appropriately managed and mining practices that are not environmentally friendly have exacerbated the flood conditions in the region.

Head of Communication Relations & CID Zone 9, Elis Fauziyah, stated that this clean river program is expected to build awareness among various stakeholders on the importance of waste management and environmental maintenance to prevent floods.
“Good environmental management is our shared responsibility. In the upstream oil and gas industry, we always carry out oil and gas operations that are safe, reliable, environmentally friendly and comply with all applicable regulations in line with the application of the ESG principles (Environment, Social and Governance),” he said.

Furthermore, Elis explained that around 80 people attended this river cleanup activity from residents and the Sanga-Sanga Dalam Village Government, the Sanga-Sanga District Government, the Sanga-Sanga Police Bhabinkamtibmas, Kebaran Fire Fighting Volunteers (DAMKAR), the Scout Group, the Setaria farmer group.
“The facilitator of this activity is the Karya Teratai Group, a partner of PEP Sangasanga Field in the PRAKARSA CSR Program,” said Elis.

River cleaning activities are carried out by cleaning up trash on the banks of the river in RT 14, RT 15 and RT 16 using three boats. “This activity is scheduled to become routine every two weeks to keep the environment clean,” Elis concluded.
