Bunyu Island, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field, together with Pertamina Hulu Energi Nunukan Company (PHENC), has collaborated to initiate the "Ketinting" (Stunting-Protected Families) and "Buset" (Healthy Bunyu) programs as part of the Company's commitment to supporting public health in synergy with the local government. The Company's presence in Bunyu District, an outermost and frontier island bordering neighboring countries, focuses not only on oil and gas exploration activities but also on contributing to social development and empowerment of the local community. In line with this, PHENC has established a strategic partnership with BPRL Ventures Indonesia B.V. (BVIBV) to conduct exploration in the Nunukan Working Area (WK).
The program, which will run through June 2025 in Bunyu District, is part of the Company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, focusing on stunting prevention and increasing nutritional awareness as a foundation for the long-term well-being of the surrounding community.
The series of activities included training for Posyandu (Integrated Health Post) cadres on June 12–13, 2025, on measurement techniques and the proper use of infant and toddler measuring tools; maintenance and calibration of Posyandu equipment on June 19–20, 2025, to ensure the accuracy of growth and development tools; and a nutrition class for adolescent girls and pregnant women on June 24, 2025, to strengthen early nutrition education.
At the event, held at the BPU Building in West Bunyu Village, Acting Senior Manager of PEP Bunyu Field, Brando Sitinjak, stated that this company-initiated activity is not simply a form of social responsibility but a real investment in creating a healthier future. "Posyandu is the frontline of health services. With accurate equipment, trained cadres, and sound nutritional knowledge, we are preparing a stronger and more competitive generation for the future," said Brando.
Echoing this sentiment, Yuli, S.Sos, Head of the Social and Economic Section of Bunyu District, expressed her appreciation for this program, emphasizing the importance of Posyandu (Integrated Service Post) cadres' understanding of growth and development measurement tools. "One of the major obstacles in the field is the lack of understanding among cadres about measuring child growth and development. This program addresses that need precisely. We thank PEP Bunyu and PHENC for their attention and contribution," she said.
The Ketinting and Buset program was attended by more than 70 cadres from all villages in Bunyu District, with resource persons from the Bunyu Community Health Center (UPT) and technicians from the Bulungan Regency Health Office. In addition to training, this activity also ensured the inspection and calibration of 57 infant/toddler growth measurement tools. Meanwhile, a nutrition class held at the end of the program was attended by 20 adolescent girls and four pregnant women as part of a long-term effort to prevent stunting.
Meanwhile, Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), welcomed this initiative and expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the local government. "The local government's support for this program confirms its benefits as a strategic step in improving community health and well-being. The synergy between the Company and the government not only improves basic services but also fosters hope: that every child has the right to grow up in the best possible condition," he said.
According to Dony, through the "Ketinting" and "Buset" programs, the Company affirms its commitment to continue being part of strategic solutions to improve the quality of community health in the areas surrounding its operations. This initiative aligns with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles implemented by Pertamina's Upstream Subholding through PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI). It also demonstrates the Company's concrete contribution to supporting the creation of a healthy generation as a foundation for the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
This program also reflects the Company's support for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4 on Quality Education, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. It also indirectly contributes to SDG 2, Zero Hunger, and SDG 5, Gender Equality. "Through strengthening Posyandu services, improving nutrition education, and cross-stakeholder collaboration, this initiative strengthens integrated stunting prevention efforts on Bunyu Island," he concluded.
