PEP Tarakan Develops Environment-Based Marginal Group Empowerment Program in Nunukan District Prison, North Kalimantan

PEP Tarakan Develops Environment-Based Marginal Group Empowerment Program in Nunukan District Prison, North Kalimantan

Nunukan - PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field collaborates with Class II B Penitentiary (Lapas) of Nunukan Regency through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) to develop an Environment-Based Marginal Group Empowerment Program (26/08/2023).

PEP Tarakan Field Manager Isrianto Kurniawan explained that this marginalized group empowerment program is part of PEP Tarakan's CSR program, namely the Waste Free Work Alliance (Akar Basah), where last July the Company had supported prisons with the help of waste shredding machines.

"We believe that environmental conservation is the responsibility of all levels of society, including prison-assisted residents, who are undergoing the process of assimilation and education. We hope that this program can have a significant impact and provide new insights and hope for them," said Iwan.

In addition, Iwan wants to invite the community to change the existing paradigm for ex-convicts so that they can contribute positively if given the same opportunity to develop. "We help them to be able to explore the potential to make changes for the better," added Iwan.

On this occasion, the Head of Class II B Prison of Nunukan Regency, I Wayan Nurasta Wibawa, explained that this program could provide opportunities for prisoners to acquire new skills and knowledge about environmentally friendly practices so that they can have sufficient provisions in the future.

"We are aware that during sentencing, prisoners may experience difficulties in terms of mental and emotional health. Hopefully, this program can provide psychological and social support to them. We want to help them recover and restore their confidence to face the future with optimism." Close I Wayan.

At this signing event, the inauguration of the Lanuka Assimilation and Education Facility (SAE) plastic waste processing area was carried out by the Nunukan Regency DPRD, and the planting of 50 terap tree seedlings that are endemic plants of Kalimantan.
