Balikpapan – PT Pertamina Hulu East Kalimantan (PHKT) invited employees' families to visit the Asian Endeavour-1 (AE-1) oil drilling rig, which was docking in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Tuesday (6/2). This rare activity, "A Day as Offshore Rig Crew," was part of the events commemorating the National Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Month Campaign in 2024 within the PHKT environment.

The Drilling Well Intervention (DWLI) Function of PHKT Zona 10 took charge of arranging the visit to the rig, emphasizing the importance of safety to 99 participants during a tour of the facilities owned by PT China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL). Participants had the chance to experience the atmosphere of offshore drilling work in rig areas, including the main deck, helideck, cantilever, rig floor, radio room, and galley (accommodation area).

Ted S Pelawi, Manager of Drilling Zona 10, explained to the visiting families at the rig facility that safety is the primary foundation of the company in carrying out all upstream oil and gas operational and business activities to support the national energy needs. According to Ted, the company management always reminds all employees to focus on safety in line with the slogan "Working Safely Increases Productivity." 

"Our top priority is to work safely and securely. However, our beloved families are waiting for us to return home safely!" he said.

The director of PT COSL Indonesia, Niu Decheng, welcomed and expressed pride in the organization's activities. "We thank PHKT for creating this opportunity as a large family event in upstream oil and gas. Like the participants, I am very excited to carry out this activity," he said.

Speaking to the participants, Niu Decheng explained the importance of energy in daily life. He stated that PHKT and his company would continue the hard work and ensure the energy supply never stops.

Meanwhile, the Head of Communication Relations & CID of Zona 10, Dharma Saputra, explained that PHKT organized various activities to commemorate the National K3 Month 2024, observed nationwide throughout the entire month from January 12 to February 12, 2024. "We collaborate with all stakeholders, including partner companies, to raise awareness and safety performance in the Company and the community," he said.

Dharma explained the importance of involving families in the program, highlighting their role in fostering safety awareness within the community. "This employee family visitation initiative," he concluded, "contributes to building a safe working environment and community."
