Monitoring Fabrication Activities, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia and SKK Migas Hold First Cut of Steel Ceremony for the Sisi Nubi AOI Project

Monitoring Fabrication Activities, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia and SKK Migas Hold First Cut of Steel Ceremony for the Sisi Nubi AOI Project

Tanjung Pinang - The management team of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) and SKK Migas conducted a visit and field monitoring activities (Management Walkthrough/MWT) at the fabrication site of the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest (SNB AOI) Project, an important project managed by PHI's subsidiary, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), to enhance gas and oil/condensate production from the Mahakam Working Area (WK) in East Kalimantan. The activity also included the First Cut of Steel Ceremony at the yard owned by PT Meindo Elang Indah in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, on Monday (15/1).

The MWT activity and ceremony were attended by the Deputy Head of SKK Migas, Nanang Abdul Manaf, and the CEO of PHI, John Anis, along with their respective teams. They toured the fabrication site and engaged in dialogue with PT Meindo Elang Indah workers regarding workplace safety. PT Meindo Elang Indah is the implementing party for the SNB AOI fabrication project.

In his remarks, John Anis revealed that the company continues to invest in active exploration and exploitation drilling activities and implements various innovations to support the achievement of national oil and gas production targets. "The project investment value is USD 215 million. The project is expected to produce around 130 MMSCFD at its peak and will become the backbone of the Mahakam WK production," said John.

The SNB AOI project is a development project for the offshore Sisi Nubi field located 25 kilometers offshore from the Mahakam Delta and depths ranging from approximately 60 to 80 meters. This complex project includes the fabrication and installation of six platforms, approximately 22 km of pipeline, modification of three existing platforms, and work below the Alut water surface, which poses a very high level of risk. The design capacity per platform averages 30 MMSCFD with an onstream target by the end of 2025.

"We must all commit to ensuring the smooth operation of this project while prioritizing workplace safety and achieving zero fatalities," added John. On this occasion, John expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to all parties involved, including SKK Migas, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, project implementers, and other relevant stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of SKK Migas, Nanang Abdul Manaf, stated that the first cut of steel ceremony for the SNB AOI Project is a tangible manifestation of project progress and PHM's commitment to supporting national oil and gas production targets by 2030, namely one million barrels of oil per day and 12 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day. Gas field development like SNB AOI supports the national energy transition policy.

"Upstream oil and gas activities are one of the state's endeavors to ensure affordable energy for the wider community. SKK Migas is responsible for ensuring that the state's energy provision, particularly oil and gas, can meet the needs of the entire Indonesian population," stated Nanang. Nanang continued, "Upstream oil and gas activities yield multiple benefits, creating a multiplier effect."

"Every new upstream oil and gas project creates a new ecosystem. There are new working partners, contractors, and even new job fields, which means creating a multiplier effect that ultimately benefits the nation," he explained.

Nanang greatly appreciated PHI and PHM's performance in managing the Mahakam WK. Despite operating for more than 50 years, this WK continues to prove its existence by maintaining production despite the challenges of natural decline from mature fields.

In conclusion, Nanang emphasized the importance of workplace safety as a top priority and primary pillar in achieving operational success in the field. "The success of drilling and project completion means nothing if fatalities endanger workers. Workplace safety must be the foremost concern when carrying out tasks, especially for field workers. Our work is massive and aggressive in achieving targets, but the safety element should never be compromised," Nanang asserted.

The volume of work for the SNB AOI platforms is very high. It required approximately seven million work hours and involved around 2,000 workers until it reached its peak by the end of 2024.

One of the advantages of the SNB AOI platforms is their use of an ultra-minimalist platform design with the lightest weight (approximately 350 tons) compared to previous platform types. Additionally, the SNB AOI platforms use new technology in Indonesia related to jacket structure, namely Suction Pile Foundation (SPF) and solar panels as one of the energy sources.

PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) is part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, which manages oil and gas upstream operations based on Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in Regional 3 Kalimantan. Last year, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, PHI recorded oil production of 57.8 thousand barrels of oil per day (MBOPD) and gas production of 668.3 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). In its vision to become a world-class oil and gas company, PHI continues to innovate and apply technology to produce safe, efficient, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly energy to support #EnergiKalimantanUntukIndonesia. PHI's headquarters is in Jakarta. Further information about PHI is available at https://phi.pertamina.com.
