Kentungan Pak Abo CSR Program Assisted by PEP Bunyu Field Successfully Improves the Quality of Livestock Maintenance in the East Bunyu Region

East Bunyu - Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field, through the Broiler Chicken Farm Kentungan Pocket Program program known as the Kentungan Pak Abo Program, has succeeded in supporting the improvement of the quality of livestock maintenance in East Bunyu Village, Bunyu District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province.

In this program, which has been running since 2019, PEP Bunyu Field collaborates with the community, namely 20 vulnerable group residents in the Company's operating area, both heads of families and homemakers, in socialization activities, construction of livestock pen facilities, and the needs of livestock. Residents of this community received education about poultry breeding schemes, especially broiler chickens, which meet livestock maintenance standards.

Manager of Communication Relations & CID Regional 3 Dony Indrawan explained that in this program, PEP Bunyu Field built a semi-permanent livestock pen on land owned by one of the group members.

"We also implement a profit-sharing system with a mutually beneficial approach where the distribution of chicken manure is given to land owners. In addition, PEP Bunyu Field brought 500 chicken seedlings from Tarakan, complete with the needs of feed, medicines, vaccinations, and other treatments needed during the process of fulfilling chicken nutrition," explained Dony.

According to Dony, the innovation in Pak Abo's Kentungan Program can be seen in the Si Abu Bakar steam engine contained in the cattle pens. "The Si Abu Bakar Steam Engine is an innovative wood-fired brooder that functions to warm chickens. With this, chicken cultivation is more effective, where before this innovation, the average chicken mortality rate at broiler farms in Bunyu was quite high, ranging from 10%-15%," he added.

From the management side, this profit-sharing system is a profit-sharing scheme where members set a percentage of profit sharing of 40% for cage children, 10% for operations, and 30% for members based on service work patterns until the harvest period. And the mandatory 20% is put in the treasury.

Dony added that another positive impact is that Pak Abo's Kentungan Program is environmentally friendly because it utilizes and treats chicken manure waste and uses 200 kg/year of wood sawdust waste in chicken enlargement media.

"The success of Pak Abo's Program is in line with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 1 to end poverty anywhere and in any form. SDGs number 2, ending hunger, achieving better food security and nutrition, and supporting sustainable agriculture. SDGs number 8, supports inclusive and sustainable economic growth, a full and productive workforce, and decent work for all. As well as SDGs number 12 which ensures sustainable consumption and production patterns," concluded Dony.

During the program development process, the economic conditions of the 14 members who are vulnerable groups have improved. The increase in average income is IDR 9,100,000.00 per chicken harvest period for the group. And there is additional cash income from the harvest of Toga (Family Medicinal Plants) and vegetables as much as IDR 2,000,000.

The Treasurer of the New Hope Farmers Group, Yudhit, revealed that his group had enjoyed the harvest 15 times. Material profits will continue to grow if members can sell it themselves to buyers.

"In addition to the harvest profit, the livestock cage was only successfully built in early 2021, as well as the successful processing of chicken manure into organic fertilizer," said Yudhit.

This year PEP Bunyu has the opportunity to become a candidate for the Golden Environmental Management Company Performance Rating (PROPER) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) RI. Gold Proper is the highest award level, meaning that the Company has managed the environment beyond what is required.
