Jakarta – PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), one of Pertamina Subholding Upstream’s subsidiaries that manages Kalimantan work area, held a convalescent plasma donor event, Saturday (11/9) at Graha Elnusa, Jakarta. This event was part of PHI’s efforts to help overcoming Covid-19, with the theme of “From Survivor Becomes Savior”. It was the first convalescent plasma donor event in Pertamina Subholding Upstream and it was organized in collaboration with Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
President Director of PHI, Chalid Said Salim, who attended the event, emphasized that health and safety is a priority that PHI will always carry out. “That’s why I always encourage creative efforts in preventing and dealing with Covid-19 in PHI – Regional Kalimantan to ensure the health and safety of all our workers, partners, and their families,” said Chalid.
Chalid expressed his appreciation for PHI workers’ enthusiasm towards the convalescent plasma donor event. “Alhamdulillah, PHI workers show great concern on this matter, especially regarding the handling of Covid-19. Today, we noted that 44 participants had registered as convalescent plasma donors, while 61 participants had registered as non-convalescent ones,” said Chalid, who also donated blood.
Chalid hopes that PHI’s efforts can inspire others, including the workers and the company’s partners, as well as other companies to take part in the efforts to deal with Covid-19.
The Head of Blood Donor Unit of PMI for DKI Jakarta office, Dr. dr. Ni Ken Ritchie, M.Biomed appreciated the blood donation event that PHI held. "Your participation as blood donors really helps in providing blood stock at PMI," she said.
dr. Ni Ken admitted that the demand for convalescent plasma had increased quite dramatically, especially in last July when the number of positive cases of Covid-19 spiked. In addition, the pandemic has also affected the number of available blood bags as the number of donors decreased.
Harto Rahmat, a convalescent plasma donor from PHI said that he became a donor out of concern. "I used to donate blood for health purposes, now I am primarily moved by a concern that people around me may need convalescent plasma," he said.
The event was carried out in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol. All participants had undergone a screening test for Covid-19, using both antigen rapid swab test and GeNose.
The event yielded 15 bags of convalescent plasma and 55 bags of non-convalescent plasma. Along with the blood donation event, PHI also held vaccination for its workers’ families and its work partners.
