Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), alongside its subsidiaries and affiliates within the Upstream Subholding of Regional 3 Kalimantan, has successfully clinched three PROPER Gold and six PROPER Green awards at the PROPER Environmental Awards 2023. The accolades were given out in Jakarta on Wednesday (20/12) by K.H. Ma'ruf Amin, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field received three PROPER Gold awards for the Ekoparian Sungai Hitam Lestari program; PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) Daerah Operasi Bagian Selatan (DOBS) was honored with a PROPER Gold award for the Semur Cendawan program; and PHKT Daerah Operasi Bagian Utara (DOBU) secured the PROPER Gold award for the Kapak Prabu program for two consecutive years.

Among the six PROPER Green awards, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) acknowledge for the Jaga Pesisir program; PEP Tarakan Field for the Akar Basah program; PEP Sangatta Field Wilayah Semberah for the Petani Madu Sari Alam Semberah program; PEP Bunyu Field for the Kampung Hijau Hidroponik program; and PEP Tanjung for the Kuas Jirak program.

President Director of PHI, John Anis, expressed gratitude for PHI's achievements in the 2023 Program for Rating Company Performance in Environmental Management (PROPER) organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

"Receiving PROPER Gold and Green awards is a testament to KLHK's acknowledgment and appreciation of PHI Group's commitment and performance in environmental management and community development that surpasses compliance aspects in the oil and gas fields we manage," explained John Anis.

John Anis highlighted that the array of awards secured by PHI Group this year signifies the Company's consistent execution of innovative and sustainable environmental management and community development programs. "We take immense pride in the commitment and performance of the entire PHI family towards the green economy principles implementations," expressed John Anis.

"We persist in implementing best practices to ensure safe, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly oil and gas operations, in line with the principles of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). We are committed to producing environmentally friendly and sustainable energy in alignment with Pertamina's energy transition policy and achieving the target of net-zero emissions by 2060 or possibly earlier," he concluded.

During his address, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, K.H. Ma’ruf Amin, expressed hope that the PROPER Environmental Awards could serve as a compass for sustainable business practices through green economy principles. PROPER must drive achievements surpassing industries' compliance with environmental regulations.

Alue Dohong, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), also conveyed appreciation, congratulating the companies for consistently demonstrating environmental excellence and implementing ethical and responsible business practices toward society.

Social and Environmental Innovations in Company's CSR Programs

So, what are the CSR programs implemented by PHI Group that supported the achievement of these PROPER Gold Environmental Awards?

Manager of Communication Relations & CID PHI, Dony Indrawan, explained that the Ekoparian Sungai Hitam Lestari Program, for instance, stemmed from PEP Sangasanga Field concern about the diminishing habitat of proboscis monkeys due to land-use changes since 1990. "We educated the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) about ecosystem preservation in river areas, including proboscis monkeys, cleaning, greening, and utilizing renewable energy (EBT) in the Sungai Hitam tourist area through solar panel installations. These solar panels provide economic benefits to Pokdarwis of around Rp 70 million per year and save electricity costs of Rp 1.2 million per year," he elucidated.

Another program, Semur Cendawan, initiated by PHKT DOBS in early 2022, develops innovations in mushroom cultivation as a solution for food needs and additional income sources for farmers in Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), which is the future capital city or IKN. "Collaboration among stakeholders like the Food Security Agency, SKK Migas Kalsul, PHKT DOBS, and beneficiaries has driven an integrated economic cycle, creating shared value," he added.

Dony also expounded on the Kapak Prabu program under PHKT DOBU, which fostered innovations in cultivating Liberika Coffee and Civet Coffee in Prangat Baru Village, Marangkayu District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. "Since 2020, the Kapak Prabu program has continually evolved into an ecological village to provide broader social and economic impacts. The community not only engages in farming and enjoys Liberika and Civet Coffee but also learns cultivation methods, including the conservation of civets, stingless bees, and others. This CSR program promotes economic development while supporting environmental conservation," he concluded.
