Caring for an Inclusive Economy, CEO of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Visits CSR Program for Disabled Community

Tarakan– The President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Sunaryanto, visited one of the company’s flagship CSR programs, the Batik Disability Group Business Program/ Kelompok Usaha Bersama Disabilitas Batik (Kubedistik), located in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, on August 15, 2024. This visit was part of the routine Management Goes To Community (MGTC) agenda, reflecting the highest leadership’s commitment to supporting community development programs in the areas surrounding the company’s operations.

The Kubedistik program aims to help people with disabilities build confidence and empower them to be more prosperous by improving their skills in making written batik. Sunaryanto, who is familiarly called Anto, made the visit accompanied by GM Zona 10 Yoseph Agung Prihartono and Tarakan Field Manager Cahyo Tri Mulyanto.

Sunaryanto explained the company's commitment to continuously running innovative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that create shared value and are designed to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The Kubedistik Program helps achieve SDGs, specifically Goal 8, which focuses on promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive and inclusive employment, and decent work for all,” he elaborated. Sunaryanto added that, besides enhancing the economic status of people with disabilities, the Kubedistik Program offers special hope for these individuals to remain optimistic and integrate with the community.

According to Anto, PHI consistently collaborates with all stakeholders in implementing the company's CSR programs, especially the community and government. “We believe that a harmonious relationship between the company, the community, and all stakeholders will support the sustainability of the company’s operations and business in providing energy for Indonesia,” Anto explained.

Tarakan Field Manager Cahyo Tri Mulyanto described that MGTC activities demonstrate the highest leadership’s commitment to ensuring the smooth execution of CSR programs and their benefits for the surrounding community. “Visits like these also motivate the beneficiaries and Pertamina employees involved in the CSR program,” Cahyo said.

The Kubedistik Program began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on thorough studies to stimulate women's economic activities, PHI, through PEP Tarakan Field, decided to implement batik-making training for people with disabilities.

This initiative from PEP Tarakan Field has received the International 14th Annual Global CSR Award 2022 in Vietnam in the Empowerment of Women Award, specifically for Empowering Gender Equality. Additionally, Kubedistik also received government recognition for environmental management and community development with a PROPER Gold Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) in 2022.

At the Energy and Mining Editor Society (E2S) Award 2022, this program was awarded Platinum in the Social Innovation Program category for its Social Needs Improvement and Capacity Building Program/ Peningkatan Kebutuhan Sosial dan Meningkatkan Kapasitas Kubedistik, as well as the Best Local Hero Upstream Oil and Gas Company award given to Kubedistik Chairman, Sony Lolong.

Sony Lolong explained that Kubedistik batik features local wisdom from Tarakan, specifically the Tidung ethnic group’s culture, such as batik motifs like pakis, squid, and other patterns reflecting the natural and cultural richness of North Kalimantan. “Thank you to Pertamina. We hope this can empower people with disabilities from upstream to downstream. We also hope the Kubedistik program can be replicated within and outside Tarakan City,” he concluded.
