Applying ESG Principles, PHKT Launches Randu Pesona CSR Program in Penajam Paser Utara District

Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan - PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT), a part of Upstream Subholding 3 Kalimantan Region, launched its featured CSR program,  Integrated Fisheries Reintensification with Organic Waste Processing and Rice-Fish Farming (Randu Pesona). This program aligns and synergizes with the Aquaculture Village (Kampung Perikanan Budidaya) Program in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) initiated by the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Agency and was inaugurated on March 26, 2022.

PHKT’s Kalimantan Field Manager, Iman Sudirman, explained that PHKT applies the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles through its community development programs. One of them is by developing flagship CSR programs. “PHKT has a Black Fly Soldier Cultivation (Budidaya Lalat Hitam/BULATIH) program under our featured CSR program, Randu Pesona. Maggots from the BULATIH program are used for animal or fish feed. Considering the high price of fish pellets, the replication of the program can help fishermen save 30% of the fish protein feed costs. We will also connect Fish Farming Group (Kelompok Pembudidaya Ikan/POKDAKAN)  with Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDES) in the hope of increasing Sebakung Jaya Village’s locally generated revenue (PAD),” said Iman.

Furthermore, Iman added that the Randu Pesona Program was systemically designed to reduce the generation of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) from organic waste by converting it into fish and livestock feed. “This program can support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 9, 11 and 12: build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation; make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable; and ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns,” he added.

On the occasion, Ir. Hamdan, Acting Regent of NPP, explained that Kampung Perikanan Budidaya program has great potential to become a center for freshwater fish cultivation. “I hope that the synergy between local Marine Affairs and Fisheries Agency and PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur can help realize the dream of a more advanced village,” said Hamdan.

Meanwhile, the Head of NPP Marine Affairs and Fisheries Agency, Andi Traso Diharto, revealed that Kampung Perikanan Budidaya is one of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries’ programs, based on the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 47 of 2021.

“Kampung Perikanan Budidaya is a village established based on signature and/or local commodities. It synergizes various potentials to encourage the development of competitive and sustainable fish farming businesses and the preservation of fish resources. The village is managed by local people so as to ensure continuous and scheduled production. Sebakung Jaya Village has the potential to be used as a model for aquaculture village, which is expected to have a direct impact on the community,” said Andi.

The freshwater fishery center in PPU is hoped to benefit the people of PPU by increasing the capacity of human resources in Kampung Perikanan Budidaya program and building synergies between companies and local government in social development. In addition, the implementation of this program can put pressure on the prices of fish feed and therefore increase the competitiveness of fish farmers, improving the local economy and increasing village income by activating the role of BUMDes, which began with fish farming activities in Sebakung Jaya.

PHKT will continue to synergize with various stakeholders to support community economic development. For this effort, PHKT came up with independent and sustainable solutions in waste management, which are expected to help prepare PPU District to become the country’s new green capital city.
