Supporting Vocational Education Quality in Vocational High Schools, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga Introduces the Guru Tamu Program

Kutai Kartanegara – PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) held the Guru Tamu Program for two vocational high schools, SMK Negeri 1 Muara Badak and SMK Negeri 1 Marangkayu, in Kutai Kartanegara Regency on September 2 and 11, 2025. The program reflected PHSS’s commitment to continuously supporting the improvement of vocational education quality for young generations living in the areas surrounding the Company’s operational areas in East Kalimantan. Through this program, PHSS professionals served as guest teachers, sharing valuable knowledge, skills, and experiences with 190 students.

The first session took place at SMK Negeri 1 Muara Badak on Tuesday, September 2, and was attended by around 100 grade XI students. The event was officially opened by the school principal, Sinawi Yunus. This session carried the theme “Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (K3LH)”. PHSS invited experts from its Safety Assurance team, including Euis Susilawati, who presented general workplace safety materials, and HSSE Superintendent Amir Basyaroh, who discussed the implementation of K3LH in the industrial sector and shared tips for entering the workforce.

The learning atmosphere was interactive, with students actively asking questions and engaging in discussions. The session concluded with a token of appreciation for the most active participants. “We truly appreciate PHSS for being the first Company in Muara Badak District to respond so positively to our Guru Tamu Program request. Hopefully, the knowledge shared today will benefit our students,” said Sinawi Yunus, Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Muara Badak.

The next Guru Tamu session took place at SMK Negeri 1 Marangkayu on Thursday, September 11, carrying the theme “Heavy Equipment Engineering Competence.” The activity involved around 90 students from grades X and XI of the Heavy Equipment Engineering Department. The main presentation was delivered by PHSS Mechanical Supervisor, Syafran Mawardi, who introduced various heavy equipment used in the oil and gas industry and led an interactive discussion about their working mechanisms and field applications. In addition to technical content, students also received insights on workplace culture and essential soft skills through a sharing session with Aidil Aqli from the PHSS Communication & Relations team.

One of the grade XI students, Fima Wulandari, expressed her gratitude for the PHSS professionals who shared their expertise. “Even though I am a woman, I am highly motivated to become a professional in the mechanical and operator field someday.” Meanwhile, another grade XI student, Rizki Aditya, added, “The material presented was beneficial. We learned about the types of heavy equipment used in the oil and gas industry and realized that the professional world requires not only hard skills but also soft skills like communication.”

Ardi, Head of the Heavy Equipment Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 1 Marangkayu, appreciated PHSS’s positive response to the school’s request. “The knowledge shared was very valuable because it was delivered directly by company professionals,” he said.

Elis Fauziyah, Head of Communication, Relations & CID Zona 9, explained that the Guru Tamu Program demonstrates the Company’s commitment to implementing its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), particularly in supporting community capacity development through education. “We believe that education is one of the key foundations for building a self-reliant, knowledgeable society and ensuring a better future for the next generation,” said Elis.

She further explained that the Company carries out its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through Community Involvement & Development (CID) programs in the education sector, aiming to support government initiatives in improving educational infrastructure and facilities, strengthening local institutions, and developing human resource capacity in the areas surrounding the Company’s operational areas in Kalimantan. “By bringing professionals directly into classrooms, we hope SMK students in Muara Badak and Marangkayu gain both technical knowledge and an understanding of workplace safety, along with essential soft skills that prepare them to compete in the industry,” she added.

PHSS collaborated with local governments and schools in implementing this program. “We believe that the success of the Company’s CSR programs is the result of collaboration with all stakeholders, especially the community and government,” she concluded.
