Jakarta– Main Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) John Anis explained the strategy for dealing with upstream oil and gas business and operational challenges, as well as explaining the company's performance in the first semester of 2023 at the PHI-style Oil and Gas Discussion Event or known by the abbreviation BASO IGA PHI on Thursday (24 /08/23).

"Until June 2023, PHI managed to achieve oil production of more than 61 thousand barrels per day (MBOPD). Meanwhile, PHI's gas production reached more than 740 million standard cubic feet (MMSCFD) and was able to exceed the company's target for the first half," said John.

Since taking on the mandate as the new skipper at PHI, John Anis has expressed his and the company's commitment to implementing the right strategy, including continuing to encourage the emergence of ideas, innovation, and the application of technology that can support safe, effective, efficient and reliable operations. John is optimistic that the company can achieve predetermined production targets through optimization and innovation and ensure safety for all workers, work partners and the community.

"In order to support the achievement of national oil and gas production of 1 million barrels of oil and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas in 2030, PHI continues to invest in exploration and exploitation drilling activities," explained John.

In 2023, PHI recorded its subsidiaries and affiliates' success in exploration and exploitation drilling activities. Development drilling at the Pamusian Field (PAM-1090) Pertamina EP Field Tarakan successfully produced 1,000 BOPD. In exploration activities, PHI obtained a discovery through the drilling of the Adiwarna 1-x well by PHI's subsidiary, namely Pertamina Hulu Mahakam. PHI also achieved successful intersecting area synergy drilling in the Helios D-1/HLX D-1 wells (PHSS exploration well) and LSE-1147 (PEP Sangasanga development well).

John also explained that prioritizing the work plan is one of the company's main strategies to achieve the oil and gas production target 2023.

"Facing the challenges of mature field & aging facilities, PHI continues to push other strategies in the form of optimizing production facilities. The increase in production & operating costs is offset by cost optimization which can be achieved through increased synergy through a borderless strategy," he added.

Furthermore, John Anis also explained an accurate monitoring strategy for various project preparations and executions to deal with various challenges, especially amidst the dynamics of oil and gas prices that we cannot control. "Our ability to manage the economics of upstream oil and gas projects by ensuring effective and timely execution will determine the success of the company," he concluded.
