Supporting Food Security, PT Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field Facilitates the Establishment of Hydroponic Greenhouses

Sangasanga – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field inaugurated the Hydroponic Green House located in Sarijaya Village, Sangasanga District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, on June 4, 2025. The inauguration also marked the first harvest of hydroponic cultivation by the Rosella Women Farmers Group, which is part of a community development program (CSR) based on modern agriculture, namely the Hydroponic Environment Program/Program Lingkungan Hidroponik (POLIPONIK) initiated by PEP Sangasanga Field.

POLIPONIK is a pioneering solution that addresses the limitations of agricultural land in the Sarijaya area by utilizing hydroponic technology in a 14 x 10 meter Greenhouse. The facility is equipped with a Deep Flow Technique (DFT) installation of 1,560 planting holes and a Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) seeding system of 400 planting holes. In addition to supporting local food security, this program also serves as a means of empowering women through innovative and practical sustainable agricultural training.

The inauguration of the Hydroponic Green House was marked by a ribbon cutting by the representative of PEP Sangasanga Field management, Gusti Ahmad Gazali, who was accompanied by the Head of Sangasanga District, Dachriansyah, the Head of Sarijaya Village, Agus Dina, and the representative of KWT Rosella. Also present were representatives of the Sangasanga Agricultural Extension Center and the Patra Women's Association in the Sangasanga area.

In his remarks, Gusti Ahmad Gazali hoped that the existence of the Hydroponic Greenhouse would provide a real contribution to increasing local food security. "We hope that this initiative can open up opportunities for additional income for the mothers who are members of the group and be an inspiration for other agricultural groups to develop environmentally friendly agricultural methods such as hydroponics," he said.

Through this program, PEP Sangasanga Field emphasized its commitment to presenting a CSR program that provides economic benefits and can build the capacity of the community as a whole. This initiative is expected to serve as a model that can be replicated in other areas to achieve food independence and sustainable community welfare.

In his remarks, the Head of Sangasanga District, Dachriansyah, appreciated this hydroponic development initiative. He emphasized the importance of strengthening group institutions so that hydroponic farming can run with sound and sustainable management. "With adequate infrastructure, there also needs to be a division of roles within the group, such as those who manage farming and those who focus on marketing," he said.

The presence of this Hydroponic Greenhouse can significantly ease farming activities. "We are very grateful. In the past, we had to hoe; now we only need to take care of the plants more diligently. Alhamdulillah, the vegetables have been ordered by many Sarijaya residents, as well as those from outside the village. This harvest also greatly helps the family economy," said the Head of KWT Rosella, Mailana.

For the past three months, KWT Rosella has been directly assisted by a hydroponic actor from Jawa Village, Edy Dahyono, from the seeding process to harvest. At the first harvest event, participants harvested various types of vegetables, including pakcoy, lettuce, white mustard greens, and kale, as a form of appreciation for the program's initial achievements.

Meanwhile, Dony Indrawan, the Communication Relations & CID Manager of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), conveyed the company's commitment to continuing the implementation of innovative and sustainable CSR programs. "Together with stakeholders, we saw the existing local problems and potentials so that the CSR programs we implement can be a solution and sustainable because they utilize existing local potentials," he said.

According to Dony, the company continues to strive to support the Indonesian government's policies in building food security, particularly in its operational areas. "As a company engaged in the upstream oil and gas sector, we have become one of the backbones in supporting national energy security. Through CSR programs such as POLIPONIK, we want to support food security, which is also important for the people and nation of Indonesia," he concluded.
