Marangkayu, East Kalimantan– PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) Northern Operation Area (DOBU) in collaboration with the Marangkayu District Fire Department held Basic Firefighting Training for the community in the Marangkayu District, Kutai Kartanegara. The training took place at the Marangkayu District Public Meeting Hall (BPU) on Thursday, June 26, 2025, involving the people of Semangko, Sebuntal, and Kersik Villages, as well as youth elements from the Pramuka Peduli community.
The Head of Marangkayu District, H. AR. Ambo Dalle, in his speech, expressed appreciation for the support of PHKT and all parties involved in organizing this activity. "This is not just training, but a real form of concern for public safety. We are aware that fire cases occur frequently in our area. With this training, I hope that the community, including the young people from Pramuka Peduli, has the knowledge and courage to act quickly if a fire occurs," he said.
In this training, participants listened to the presentation of basic knowledge about disaster response, which included an introduction to the types of Light Fire Extinguishers (APAR) and the techniques for their proper use. The material was delivered by the Fire Emergency Response Team (FERT) from Santan Terminal, which is part of the PHKT DOBU operational facility.
The training activity continued with a field session, where participants witnessed a live fire extinguishing demonstration. Finally, participants took part in a hands-on practice session that covered the use of APAR, fire blankets, and the operation of fire hoses connected to the Fire Truck unit. Through this session, participants not only strengthened their conceptual understanding but also improved their practical skills in responding to emergency conditions quickly and effectively.
HSSE Superintendent PHKT DOBU, Yulhafidz, explained that this training aims to equip the community with basic fire handling skills to strengthen their preparedness in dealing with emergencies, especially fires.
According to him, this training is a crucial component of the community-based upstream oil and gas operation safety strategy. "Fire prevention and response efforts must start from the basic knowledge and skills possessed by the community. We hope that this training will be useful provisions and strengthen collaboration between companies, government, and the community," he explained.
According to Yulhafidz, this activity shows the importance of collaboration between the private sector, government, and the community in building a culture of safety and preparedness at the local level. "The involvement of young elements such as Pramuka Peduli is also a strategic step in building a caring and alert generation. The Pramuka Peduli Community is a volunteer group consisting of high school and vocational school students who have a high concern for the environment and disaster response," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, emphasized the company's commitment to continuing its support for sustainability by encouraging increased community capacity and environmental preservation.
