PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur and BDI Santan Terminal Provide Access to Clean Water for the Sebuntal Village Community

Marangkayu – PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT), in collaboration with the Islamic Dawah Organization/Badan Dakwah Islam (BDI) at Santan Terminal, inaugurated a borewell in Sebuntal Village, Marangkayu Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara, on October 24, 2025. The new facility is expected to provide a sustainable solution to the community’s clean water needs. The bore well, located in the compound of The Nur Mosque, one of the local mosques in Sebuntal Village, reaches a depth of approximately 60 meters. In addition, BDI will assist the community to ensure the well’s sustainability, including knowledge transfer on maintenance and management practices.

Santan Terminal PHKT Superintendent, Muhamad Yasin, stated that this initiative stemmed from the concern of Pertamina workers toward the basic needs of Sebuntal villagers and the worshippers of The Nur Mosque. Previously, the community relied on rainwater reservoirs and a few privately owned wells for its clean water supply. “This assistance is expected to strengthen the bonds and good relationship between the Company and the community in this area because we believe that a harmonious relationship supports smooth upstream oil and gas operations and business, essential for maintaining Indonesia’s energy supply,” said Yasin.

The handover ceremony also featured a joint prayer led by Ustadz Muchtar from BDI Santan Terminal, followed by the signing of the Handover Report by representatives of PHKT Santan Terminal, as the donor, along with the Marangkayu Subdistrict Head, representatives from Sebuntal Village, Mosque Board members, and Neighborhood Head (RT) 21 Sebuntal. ”Through this multi-stakeholder collaboration, Yasin expressed his hope that the clean water from the well would bring goodness, quench thirst, and continuously generate blessings. “Water is the source of life. The Prophet Muhammad said that one of the best forms of charity is to provide water to those in need,” he added.

In his remarks, Marangkayu Subdistrict Head, HR. Ambo Dalle expressed appreciation for PHKT’s concern for the residents of Sebuntal Village. “May this facility bring great benefits to the worshippers of The Nur Mosque and nearby residents, and become an enduring act of charity for all those involved. Let us take care of this facility responsibly, just as we safeguard the peace, harmony, and order of our village,” he said.

Representing the Marangkayu Police, Bripka Laerang Tanjung, the Community Police Officer (Babhinkamtibmas) for Sebuntal Village, also expressed his prayers and hopes that the bore well would bring wide-reaching benefits, not only for mosque congregants but also for the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, Head of Communication, Relations & CID Zona 10, Elis Fauziyah, reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to ensuring that its upstream oil and gas operations and business contribute to economic growth, community resilience, and environmental sustainability, in line with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “Clean water is a fundamental necessity of life. With this bore well facility, we hope to support the health, comfort in worship, and quality of life of the surrounding community,” she said.

Elis added that the bore well assistance aligns with the Company’s commitment to continuously provide value to communities around its operational areas and deliver sustainable energy, thereby supporting national energy resilience in accordance with the government’s Asta Cita vision of achieving energy self-sufficiency.
