Sangatta—PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangatta Field successfully recorded its highest oil production, generating 3,545 BOPD (barrels of oil per day) on March 24, 2024. This production level is the highest since 1987.

The production rate resulted from the success of the ST-217 development well, which contributed 269 BPOD since commencing production on March 20, 2024, and the ST-194 workover well, which contributed 206 BPOD since March 21, 2024. PEP Sangatta Field operates within the Pertamina Upstream Subholding Regional 3 Zone 9.

Zona 9 General Manager Andre Wijanarko mentioned that achieving this production milestone resulted from implementing proactive development strategies over the past two years. "We've put 20 drilling wells into production (POP) and completed 15 workover wells in the Sangatta Field. The enhanced success rate in these wells is also attributed to passive seismic activities and Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) surveys carried out in the Sangatta Structure," he noted.

Andre conveyed that the company employs the best plans and technologies to sustain production in mature oil fields. "This production achievement demonstrates tangible results of our efforts to mitigate natural production decline rates and maintain production levels in the oil fields we manage," said Andre.

Andre also added that one of the positive impacts of the company's efforts is the synergy related to risk mitigation through collective and synergized efforts via the Borderless Joint Operation between PEP and PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS). In the Sangatta area, oil production of 511 BOPD comes from 3 borderless wells that have been POP since 2023.

Meanwhile, Subsurface Development Area 2 Manager Budi Darmawan explained that implementing the Continuous Striving Cost Effectiveness Strategy also plays a crucial role in optimizing drilling well depths and casing designs, enabling drilling to be carried out 17% faster with costs reduced by approximately US$200,000 per well.

Furthermore, Budi noted that this achievement could motivate the entire team to improve performance. "Hopefully, this achievement can inspire all workers to always strive diligently, intelligently, thoroughly, and sincerely in achieving the targets set by the company," he concluded.
