Tana Tidung, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), through one of its affiliates under Zona 10, JOB Pertamina-Medco E&P Simenggaris (JOB Simenggaris), conducted a Management Goes to Community (MGTC) activity by directly reviewing community development programs such as Mangrove Restoration and a Layer Poultry Farming Center. The activities occurred in Sengkong Village, a coastal village in Sesayap Hilir Sub-district, Tana Tidung, North Kalimantan, known for its abundant natural and local resources. This initiative aims to provide moral support and evaluate the community development programs implemented in villages near the company's operational areas.
The MGTC activity was led directly by Zona 10 JOB Simenggaris, General Manager Yoseph Agung Prihartono, Field Manager Agung Setyawan, and General Affairs Manager Fransisca Geronica. The JOB Simenggaris management team was welcomed by the Sengkong Village BUMDes (Village-Owned Enterprise) Head, Effendi, on December 18, 2024.
JOB Simenggaris collaborated with Sengkong Village's Youth Farmers Group to implement the Mangrove Restoration Program. The program aims to restore and rehabilitate mangrove ecosystems, including areas within community fishponds, while raising public awareness about the importance of environmental preservation.
Mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining coastal ecosystems. They act as barriers against coastal erosion, improve water quality, provide habitats for various species, and mitigate climate change by absorbing carbon. This program also seeks to create new economic opportunities for the community and improve the quality and quantity of milkfish, shrimp, and crab harvests. Currently, mangrove ecosystems in many areas, including Sengkong Village, face threats from land conversion and other destructive activities.
In addition to mangrove conservation, JOB Simenggaris also initiated a Layer Poultry Farming Program, an important initiative to strengthen Sengkong Village's economy. JOB Simenggaris contributed to several activities, including providing a battery cage system with a capacity of 1,000 chickens to support local market demand, donating layer chicken seeds to the local Posyandu (integrated health post) for the Supplementary Feeding Program (PMT), and conducting management training for the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) to establish eco-friendly and sustainable poultry farming practices. This support also indirectly helps with stunting prevention efforts.
Besides improving the local food supply, the layer poultry farming program offers residents opportunities to enhance their economic well-being. This process creates new job opportunities and strengthens the village's food security, ultimately improving the quality of life for the local community.
Zona 10 JOB Simenggaris, General Manager Yoseph Agung Prihartono, explained that this initiative aligns with the company's efforts to impact the environment and surrounding communities positively. "We hope that with the support of various stakeholders, this program can succeed, provide long-term benefits, and serve as a model for other villages around JOB Simenggaris' operational areas," he stated.
The MGTC activity demonstrates JOB Simenggaris' commitment to environmental sustainability, community empowerment, and development in areas near its operations. Community development programs in Sengkong Village represent concrete steps towards empowering the community to become more self-reliant and prosperous.
During the JOB Simenggaris management team's visit to the village office, Sengkong Village Head, Sulaiman, expressed gratitude for JOB Simenggaris' care for the village. "Thank you very much for the exceptional support from JOB Simenggaris in advancing the community of Sengkong Village," he said.
He also noted that the assistance provided has boosted the residents' economy by managing productive livestock businesses. "We hope this collaboration will continue for the advancement and welfare of the community," he concluded.
