Sangasanga – In commemoration of National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN), PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field organized a Waste Management Socialization and Creation Competition for used goods for elementary school students in the Sanga Sanga area, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan.

The socialization, themed "I Care for a Sustainable Earth," was attended by 310 students from State Elementary School (SDN) 009 Sanga Sanga, Kutai Kartanegara. The activity aims to teach the importance of environmental cleanliness and waste management to early age children.

Senior Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, Sigid Setiawan, emphasized during his speech on February 21 that in this socialization activity. They introduced the students to the correct way of sorting waste by grouping it based on source, shape, and type.

"At Pertamina, we remain committed to conducting upstream oil and gas operations safely, reliably, compliantly, and in an environmentally friendly manner. Therefore, the Company continues to invite all stakeholders to reduce carbon emissions, carry out energy efficiency and environmental conservation, support Pertamina's energy transition policy, and aim for net zero emissions by 2060," explained Sigid.

Sigid further explained that sorting waste reduces garbage accumulation in final disposal sites (TPA) and can provide economic benefits through waste management. This initiative initiated by PEP Sangasanga Field is aligned with this year's HPSN theme, "Overcoming Plastic Waste in a Productive Way."

Sigid explained that the items used by the participating students in the competition were waste that had reached a stage where further processing was no longer possible. The competition is judged not only on the aesthetics of the product they create but also on the variety of waste types they use to create the artwork.

On this occasion, the Principal of SDN 009 Sanga Sanga, Ariati, expressed appreciation for the initiatives implemented. "I am very grateful to PEP Sangasanga Field for this activity. Hopefully, this positive collaboration will continue to contribute to implementing better waste management," said Ariati.
