Three Subsidiaries of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Sign a Confidentiality Agreement with Chevron Regarding CCS/CCUS Development

Washington DC – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), and PT Pertamina Hulu East Kalimantan (PHKT) have signed confidentiality Agreement with Chevron Energy International Pte. Ltd. related to the development of Carbon Captured Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage (CCUS) in the PT Pertamina Hulu East Kalimantan's work area in East Kalimantan.

 

The collaboration between the three subsidiaries of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) with Chevron is a form of PT Pertamina's commitment to support the realization of its policies regarding the energy transition, the net zero emission target in 2060, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).

 

The signing occurred with John Anis as Director of PHM, PHSS, and PHKT, Jason Ashurst as Authorized Representative of Chevron New Energies, and Mirza Mahendra as Director of Oil and Gas Engineering and Environment on Monday, November 13th, 2023, in Washington, DC. Nicke Widyawati, the President Director of Pertamina (Persero), Jodi Mahardi, Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, and Wahyu Budiarto, Chevron Indonesia Country Manager, were present to witness this momentous event.

John Anis explained that the company is committed to conducting operations involving exploring and extracting oil and gas. These operations prioritize safety, compliance, reliability, and environmental friendliness, ensuring the continual provision of energy for society's needs and contributing to Indonesia's development.

 

"In line with the company's various strategic steps to reduce the impact of operations through energy and water efficiency, reducing emissions, processing B3 and Non-B3 waste, as well as conservation and preservation of biodiversity, we welcome this collaboration with Chevron so that Pertamina will have accurate information and capabilities in carrying out CCS and CCUS development, especially in the East Kalimantan region," explained John Anis.

 

John Anis added that PHI and its subsidiaries apply best practices in managing operational impacts, acknowledging the company's strategic role in providing sustainable energy in the form of oil and natural gas for Indonesia.

 

"Therefore, we open opportunities for collaboration with all stakeholders in managing environmentally friendly operations to produce safe and clean energy," he concluded.
