Sebuntal, East Kalimantan– The Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) Program of PT Pertamina Hulu East Kalimantan (PHKT) recorded an important achievement by holding a Grand Harvest of Semi-organic Golden Melons on May 21, 2025, in Sebuntal Village, Marangkayu District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The Grand Harvest event was attended by stakeholders, including the Head of Marangkayu District, H. AR. Ambo Dalle, Marangkayu Police Chief Iptu Muhammad Risal, Head of Badan Permusyawaratan Desa (BPD) Muhammad Arsyad, teams from the Marangkayu District Agricultural Extension Agency, and the local farming community.
This Grand harvest marks an important milestone as a real implementation of the results of the training held by PHKT in January 2025. The training included the creation of the Everlasting Lucky Mushroom/Jamur Keberuntungan Abadi (Jakaba), a biological agent that plays a role in controlling Fusarium virus attacks on plants, as well as the use of Biosaka. This natural elicitor concoction can increase plant resistance to pests and diseases while boosting productivity. The cultivation of golden melon was carried out on an area of 17 x 20 meters with a two-branch planting system (topping), producing an initial harvest of 500 kilograms of golden melon. Strengthening the capacity of farmers and developing sustainable agricultural practices can improve the quality of farming cultivation, thereby supporting the achievement of national food security.
This Grand harvest is the result of a synergy between the Sebuntal Village Organic Farmers Group, Koloni Balai Larva (KOBAR), and the PHKT Northern Operation Area/Daerah Operasi Bagian Utara (DOBU) as a form of joint commitment to encouraging the development of sustainable and innovative community-based agriculture.
The Head of Marangkayu Sub-district, H. AR. Ambo Dalle expressed his appreciation for the collaboration of the parties involved. "What we see today is proof that collaboration and the will to progress can produce real change. Hopefully, this will be a good example for other villages in optimizing CSR programs for mutual progress."
The approach of this program prioritizes the principles of environmentally friendly agriculture and cost efficiency, making it a measurable solution to increase agricultural yields in a sustainable manner. Although not yet fully organic due to climate challenges and exceptionally relatively high rainfall, this initiative is a promising first step towards more resilient and sustainable agricultural practices.
Marangkayu Police Chief Iptu Muhammad Risal expressed his gratitude for the grand melon harvest in Sebuntal Village. "We hope this program will inspire similar efforts in other villages receiving CSR support from PT PHKT to deliver greater benefits and boost economic resilience in rural communities," he said.
Meanwhile, Pjs. Superintendent Production Movement Santan Terminal, Anton Soetikno, expressed his pride in the success of local farmers. "This harvest is not only the result of the land but also the fruit of the spirit of cooperation and innovation. At PHKT, we believe that sustainability encompasses not only energy conservation but also the development of an independent and healthy community. Seeing the Sebuntal community successfully implementing Jakaba and Biosaka training, we believe that collaboration like this should continue to be maintained and developed," he said
In addition to the symbolic harvest, the series of events also included an educational garden tour, interactive discussion sessions about organic farming, and a local agricultural product bazaar. This activity reflects the potential of agriculture as a foundation for village independence, mainly when driven by innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
